Hello on behalf of a mate

Said mate is looking at a 55 plate 6 series as his family car

Him wife and 2 kids aged 10 and 7

I said it would be too small in the back for the kids

He says loads of rear seat and leg room and it's a 3 seat in the back

Is he right ??

I thought it was little more that a 2 + 2 ?.

Cheers

Stuart

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but unless your mate and his mrs are 5ft tall then no chance!

Agreed. I had one for 2 years and we managed OK only because we have one child and my wife is vertically challenged. Not recommended for 2 kids. The F13 I have now is better, but I still would not advise a average height family of 4 to even consider one..

Sounds like he has an exceptionally advanced version of the man maths calculator. definately no third seat and the rear is only suitable for limbless dwarfs.

Quite perplexing how many times this topic comes up.

To adumbrate:

- there is no 'formal'* space for three in the back. There are two, clearly defined semi-buckets.

- bigger than an XK, a 3200/4200, a 911. Smaller than a CL [as examples]

- unless kids have gone through a Karl Malone growth spurt then a 10 yo will be perfectly comfortable.

  • ex-girlfriend wanted two mates to join myself and a pal down to a West End nightspot. I said to her, '...in the boot or go on the tube...' to the fifth member of the party. Ex scowled and grinched at me, and pushed her into the rear of the car. Three will fit if you want to fold women like deckchairs.

Erm! My father in law had a 645i for 7 years and i never had an issue with space in the back and im 6ft tall. The new 640d he bought is just as roomy too. Only one which i could see an adult having problems in is the convertible as it has a lower roof.

Question is was there anyone in the front seat at the time? I'm 6ft and if anyone with legs is in the back my knee's are pressed up on the glove box in front. That's in my dads 645! I'm not saying it can't be done but its not comfortable that's for sure.

To the OP, I think your mate should go see one for himself. I would not consider it a comfortable car for a family of 4, space in the back is tight if the front passengers are average height. The back is ok for a short or occassional journey but nothing more IMHO.

A six series - a three seater in the back?:

Only if one rear passenger is one of these:

I had 630i and now I drive M6.
Rear seats are smaller than M3 or any e92/93s.
Adults start to feel pain after about half an hour drive.
Kids don't complain but do say it's not comfy.

I drive it daily, perfect GT cruiser but not for a family..

Slightly off on a tangent but do the rear seats fold down on the '6'?

I had to sell mine as it just wasn't suitable with even a 2 yr old, let alone a family!

I'm just over 6' and there was literally NO leg room behind me in my preferred seating position.

I ran a 650 cab for 2 years. I am 6/3 and had the seat back so it was touching the back seat and nobody could sit behind me.

I sold it because originally my daughter was 5ft and could sit OK behind my wife who is 5/6 (they hated the 911 we tried) but the minute my daughter got to 5/6 as well neither wanted to travel in it anymore.I think the coupe has a fraction more room than the cab
