Few days ago my dsc and hand brake light have come on and it on yellow took to few garages they any pick up on any problem I've booked it in with BMW for a diagnostic as am worried what it maybe. Also the DTC button not working. MOT due soon would my MOT pass or not and what should I so please anyone help and any recommendation. As never had any problem with the car since I owned it from 2009 and mileage on the car is 78000. Was even thinking of doing warranty as one garage said will have to take to BMW for them to pick up on what's wrong and it can cost me around £1400.

Fault reading will say what it is...

With a bit of luck it'll be a cheapish sensor. Bad luck it would be the DSC unit (that I don't know much about) but there are cheaper fixes available.

Thanks but what sort of cheaper fixes. I've read other forums and some say £1500 and some £400 and in the manual book it does say a lot just say dsc failed

Take it to a BMW specialist for a diagnostic. They'll charge you a lot less than a BMW main dealer...

It could be a sensor which are cheap.

Worse though the 1 and 3 series have issues with the DSC unit. Take a look at this link for a cheaper fix...

Your chosen specialist may well know of such fixes.

About 6 weeks ago I had a problem with the DSC/DTC/ABS thingy, idrive said DSC failed, DBC failed and TPMS failed - accompanied by orange and red dash lights. Luckily car fixed under warranty but reading around it seems that this (or similar) is a very common problem. Hope it's just a sensor op

Thank you everyone. I have booked my car in for a diagnostic and did read about it were this is a common problem I just hope it's a sensor and not the dsc but is it worth getting warranty done on the car.

Extremely common problem which I had on my 1 series. I believe it would have cost £1,400 to fix but BMW goodwill meant it cost £200.

This fault should have been a recall. Good luck.

If is dsc there is a repair kit available now.
Mine went bad and the dash had the same warning lights as you.
Cost approx £450 inc vat to get done.

Thank you that is a bit pricy but better then £1400 but I will ask about goodwill and see if I get it done for cheaper. But should I get a diagnostic done or just do my mot and take it from there

I'm pretty certain it won't pass an MOT with all those lights..

Is the ABS one on? It 100% won't if it is.

It's a 1 series so it will be the DSC unit (also expect the PDC & steering column sensor to fail at any moment oh & if its diesel the DPF will be along to join the party too) design fault BMW make a repair kit for it, if you bought the car thro the BMW network you maybe able to get this as a good will gesture.

The repair kit which someone sent a link cost £400 it's not a diesel it's a petrol so I must be looking around £600 or more including vat and mot without any work except the repair kit and the diagnostic

Shouldn't be paying anymore than approx £ 400-450 to get that DSC unit repaired. The actual part to repair it shouldnt cost more than £200.

DIY here.
