Have issue with the sat nav in my BMW can anyone give me advice where to get this fixed or sort out myself will come up with Error message or insert DVD. It is the Professional Sat nav system- been advised that I should not try to use a copy from Ebay as this can destroy the sat nav drive. Live in London but prepared to travel to get it fixed

Hi - this seems to be quite a common issue. The DVD drives do seem to start failing after a few years. Good news is that a new drive is now less than £100 to buy and is relatively straightforward to fit yourself using this helpful guide:

Or probably 1-2 hrs garage labour to do the same.

There's some debate about whether copies discs have the ability to cause damage.

Complete bs regarding copies.

Bmws have always had crsppy lasers in their drives. Just look at the older mk4 lasers that would die and could only reads cds after a while and not dvds anymore.

Thanks for the quick reply on the issue of the DVD, have decided that i won't risk trying to do the work myself but will ask my mechanic to give it a go depending on what they are wanting to charge

No problem - I did realise that the link I shared was for a 3 and not 6 series but probably not much different and I imagine the DVD unit is the same.

Best price I got was from www.bmminiparts.com

Just to let you know getting the car fixed thought that i would get my new independent garage that I am using fix the car for me. ( see below) thanks for all youor replies

Hi, it has changed part numbers again! It is now 65 83 8 273 195 and it is now £84.50+vat. It is quite a common problem on the BMW's we have replaced quite a few in the past. You are looking at about an hour's labour (£60+vat) to fit plus the part. It is available for next day delivery. Thanks
