iDrive and what to look for on an E91?
Discussion
Just a quick one really,
1 - Any obvious issues to look for on a 325i E91? Vehicle is an LCI 2008 model with 60k on the clock. Manual box with iDrive. FBMWSH and 2 owners. Im sure corrosion on the arches is probably an issue like my E46, but anything else i should be looking at?
2 - iDrive, will it play MP3 CD's? To my knowledge, its the upgraded newer nav, which fits in with it being an LCI model I guess. It's got th sharper/clearer maps and a bigger screen I think. Does it have MP3 capability though? I also heard a rumor that they have a hard-drive for storing music?
Looking at the pictures, early E91 models have two disc slots, one for the nav disc and one for music. This car however, has only 1 slot with 8 buttons numbered 1-8 above it. I assume the maps are on a hard drive, but does this mean it has a dash-built 8x cd changer?
Any advise/issues appreciated

Look out for the clutch, should be light and really easy to lift up slowly and smoothly, many of these have the dodgy flywheel which makes the clutch feel overly heavy and can make it judder as you lift it.
iDrive
Older CCC unit...

Newer CIC unit...

Newer one is far better.
hardly any have cd changers, why would you want that?
Buy a cheap iPod and have 300 cds in your car, that you can browse by artists, album, song, playlist etc. and get the titles up on screen.
Or just rip each one to the hard drive.
Edited to show the CCC after the update to give the graphics a touch up.

The photos above are a little unfair to the older unit - the photo of the older unit is the small screen version, not the professional nav. No doubt the LCI version is better but the older professional nav with wide screen is still a good system (I use it every day and it works fine for me).
CIC is the better of the two but CCC can be removed and CIC installed. CIC can also be installed to a car without iDrive.
Obviously finding a car with CIC fitted is the easiest option. BMW had many options so just because CIC is installed that doesn't mean you get bluetooth or USB in the armrest. These can be retrofitted though.
Retrofits are available through BMW but will be very expensive. There is a guy on e90post that will do it at a good price. He's retrofitted a combox to my car and did a very good job. Off the top of my head I think he charges around £1500 for a CIC retrofit to a car with no iDrive.
