We have a 2008 bmw 520D facelift model. The fuel tank on the right, behind the driver empties and the car stalls, while the tank on the left is full. We have tried three second hand fuel pumps but still the problem is there. On advice we fitted a brand new genuine BMW pump and this also has not cured the problem. We have tested the injectors, the high pressure pump and replaced the fuel filter (not genuine) but still the car stops on the road, and again the right tank is empty and the left is full. Anybody any ideas?

Ps We changed all the timing chains.

I am not sure why you have tried so much, surely the only possible issue is the transfer pump, not the main fuel pump, injectors, chains, or anything else.

Chains were just changed as a precautionery measure as it is the n47 engine and they are noted for giving problems, when you buy a new fuel pump for the tank, both pumps come on it the electric part and the suction part.

Yes, fuel lines no cleaned out completely, swarf worked it's way back in to the system, and destroyed everything again, mechanics fault.

Hello. I have the same problem with a e60 2.0 n47. I changed the fuel pump but the problem persists. After replacement the pump is noisy and does not transfer fuel. Can you tell me how you solved the problem? From the above post I did not understand too much. Thank you!

The problem came back with our car because when the new pump was fitted the fuel tank and lines were not cleaned out, small pieces of metal from the break up of the first pump went back to the tank with the return pipe and destroyed everything again, pump injectors etc, it is essential you clean the tank out and all the fuel lines. We had to replace everything again , it was a very costly mistake. Hope this helps
