RACING DYNAMICS
Discussion
I am wondering if anybody else on here owns a full blooded 80-90's era Racing Dynamics "K" car, i.e a factory built complete car, rather than a load of bolt on goodies. I have yet to find another whole car in the UK, 4 years ago a dealer in Bournemouth had what could only be described as a shed with iffy provenance given his description.
I have searched the internet and there seems to be very few worldwide that are searchable. I am hoping there are some fellow owners in the UK.
Thanks Guys

Here you go, I use it as a track car, but still with all original trim and spare wheel, now fitted with BC Coilovers for superb cornering, the original racing dynamics kit was too soft as you can see in the pics, a point noted when Will Hoy drove this very car around Silverstone many years ago for a Magazine Feature!

and yes a V12 in a 3 series is a bit bonkers!

Hello Stranger, hope life is treating you well.
Yours is the only one I have ever seen advertised for sale and I have never seen one in any magazines.
How's the rest of the fleet doing?

Changing as it where, E46 Alpina B3s Convertible in, E36 M3 and X5 are gone replaced with an Infiniti QX70 3.0d, and the TVR is about to get TURBOCHARGED......wahoooooooooooo! Might make the Cossie look slow! Talking of which has it seen the light of day of late?

E34, Racing Dynamics, Will Hoy = nice post! Thanks
Is your K38 based on an M30 or S38-engined E34? It's not a car I know too much about
Have you driven an M5 3.8 in comparison btw?
M30 Engine, supposedly bored, cammed etc with a quoted 280 according to the two 90's Magazine articles I have on this actual car, it was the demo vehicle for the RD importer in the 90's, it has been on the rollers and put out 240 for me. Massive RD Brembos pull it up very nicely. Gearing has been messed about with as top is basically direct and therefore maxs out @ 130, not the quoted 155!

Never driven an M5 of any vintage, E36 & E30 M3 yes and currently have two Alpina "S" models.
Cossie last came out for the Sunday Service at Silverstone, so it's been a while. I'll tax it again in the spring.
The TVR will be mad with a turbo on, where did that idea come from? It will definately be faster than mine untill i can fund a new gearbox and sort out the fuel pump.
Have you got many trackdays booked this year?

I don't think the M5 would cope too well as a track car without significant work, so that says a lot for your RD that it canNever driven an M5 of any vintage, E36 & E30 M3 yes and currently have two Alpina "S" models.
Nice mix of rare cars you have there btw

You need a spell checker mate when did sapphire have 2 R's -your garage- check your boot lid!The TVR will be mad with a turbo on, where did that idea come from? It will definately be faster than mine untill i can fund a new gearbox and sort out the fuel pump.

TVR club mag featured a turbo 4.5 Chim with 458BHP 524lb/ft iirc. Mine is not going to be quite as mental, high 300's hopefully and torque in the 400's, turbo is water cooled, megasquirt ECU system and coil pack ignition system, larger injectors etc, and no engine mods...... just bolt it on!
Planning track days but not booked yet, need to refurb the calipers first as the pistons are sticking giving wheel hop and crap tyre wear on the k38.

I only seem to do odd or rare!Nice mix of rare cars you have there btw
On your M5 if you poly bushed it and fitted decent coilovers with adjustable camber mounts (BC Racing kit was £799 but requires welding to your existing strut stub), along with Yellow stuff pads and some track orientated tyres you may be very surprised. It is basically what mine has over a std e34 535i, oh and the massive 4 pot Brembo's but those can still be bought for about £2K. and your M5 will have far more grunt than mine!
I just love the handling of the E34 chassis it is superb, you get all the feedback you need in your bum!
I like your "garage" too! C2 touring is super rare.
I realise that this is an old thread that I'm resurrecting but there is no mention of the bits that I know about RD in the UK so thought I would mention them for posterity.
In the 80s and 90s there was a company in Bedfordshire run by Eve Wheeler and her son, Dan. I first met them when I was involved in dealerships in Central London and they imported and retailed various steering wheels such as RAID, Italvanti, etc. They retailed all types of upmarket bits for VWs, Audis, BMWs etc and obviously these were of interest to my dealers such as Scott's of Sloane Square and Dovercourt who sold most of the VAG cars in Central London.
Around 1990 Eve started talking to Racing Dynamics about being their importer into the UK and I think it was that year or more likely 1991 that they had a stand at Motorfair in Earls Court solely for Racing Dynamics BMW. They asked me to be on the stand for a few days as I was involved in a BMW dealership and could obviously supply the new cars to be converted. As the new tuning specialist for BMW in the UK they attracted good interest. I remember that we had converted cars on the stand but cannot be sure what was there. I think Eve's silver e34 but not sure of what else. The cosmetic bits were good but the mechanical upgrade items took the cars to another level.
I think the silver car in the photos here was Eve's old car. To drive it was better than a standard e34 535i but not as good or as sharp as a "straight from the showroom floor" e34 M5. The advantage of the RD package was a little could be done at a time. Take your standard car in for a service, ask for alternative wheels or steering wheel, or mechanical bits to be fitted at the same time. This was of great appeal to company car drivers in those days.
Something that sticks in the memory was the very high standard of brochure we gave out. Equal to, if not better, than a BMW one. The quality of the parts was high as well and a great pity that the whole franchise didn't take off here. I have an E36 Touring that I'm rebuilding and hopefully the tuning parts on it will all be RD.
At the time we had the e30 M3 and Z1 and there were parts for them as well. I remember a quick drive in a converted 2.7 Z1 but cannot remember whose car that was. I think it came from the HQ in Italy which was the Racing Dynamics centre of operations.
Hopefully of interest to somebody and maybe it can be brought up to date. Don't know what happened to the Wheelers or their business.

May e34 M5s did about 50 track days (Oulton, Silverstone, Combe, Donington, Cadwell, Elvington, Abingdon, Bentwaters) and Ring tips on nothing other than uprated pads!Nice mix of rare cars you have there btw

The fun started so long ago that some of the videos come from VHS cameras
The Ring is the place to have fun in them though!
Another thread revival but just spotted this but sadly it's one of those ads with ropey images: https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/10915517?c...
