2010 730d rough idle glow plug problems
Discussion
Hi all
i have been lucky enough to get my hands on a really nice 2010 730d M sport with all the bits and bobs and totally love it
i had it in at the main stealers for a service and check up and asked them to read the codes as it was slightly missing on cold start up tick over but this disappears after you have driven it for
About 2-3 mins, the codes came back as all glow plugs failing and the chap told me it is most likely the glow plug control unit as they are all showing faults I asked for a cost and he said the part is not much but there is quite a lot of labour involved as I think the inlet manifold has to come of.
After a few days a woman called me with a price and the part was coming in at £70 odd and another £100 for labour !!!!
this sounds oddly cheap to me and i feel it must be a mistake but don't want to rock the boat
should i just get it booked in and hope it gets through with out any one noticing as surly they must have to honer their quote once the work has started
Or will I get bitten and have my pants puled down ??
any one with any info on this would be really appreciated
cheers

That doesnt sound bad for just the controller, I've just had 6 glowplugs and controller replaced on a 325D, the total cost was £400 but that was mainly because a few bits need to be removed to get to all of the plugs, the controller is fairly simple.
In my own experience with main dealers, if they have quoted a price they stick to it unless they discover something else wrong while they are in there.
Hope it works out ok

Hello, sorry to bring a thread back. Did the controller fix the problem? I have a 2012 730d and very rough idle (sounds misfiring but its not) until its been drive for a minute or so. Only happens when the engine has been stood overnight (summer and winter).
Haven't had any codes read as yet.

With out the codes its pretty much a guessing game, when i had my 530d, all my glow plugs showed a fault, i was told to change the controller 1st. Haven't had any codes read as yet.
I had that done and then rescanned and it was saying glow plug 2 and 4 were faulty.
The likelihood of all 6 plugs failed is virtually 0 more more likely the Beru GP controller as failed
that price looks about right they can be picked up genuine onlne for about £80 and labour wise about 120 inc clearing fault codes I will warn you however dont leave it to long as at present your particulate filter is not performing its regeneration which is essential for its well being inc your wallets , done many of these mostly on the big sixes and not one as needed glow plugs all controller failures on the M&N code Diesel motors
