BMW 5 Series Touring Rear suspension collapsed again
Discussion
Hi I have 535 M Tourer 2011, bought from BMW Colchester March 2015, rear suspension problem diagnosed October last year, work eventually done after 6 week wait ( recurring problem for BMW it appears so they have all the parts........for a recurring problem....go figure ) . The work was done under warranty and was about 2K . I now appear to have exactly the same problem.......on talking to BMW recovery it was pointed out I was out of the 1 year warranty period. I have bought a warranty in March of this year so covered in that respect. But the guy on the phone was alluding to the fact that if the part is replaced under warranty the guarantee on that part is only for the period until the warranty expires.......anyone else had similar problems?
Car is being delivered to BMW Colchester today so I will take up with the dealership in the morning. Any comments on this welcome.

There is only a warranty on parts you have paid for - either in full or part. So if this was replaced under the AUC warranty then the warranty on the work expires with the rest of the AUC warranty.
However I wouldn't worry too much as it'll be covered under your insured warranty.
so no guarantee on the parts for 12 months or anything like that? However I wouldn't worry too much as it'll be covered under your insured warranty.
I had 2 go in mine as well. Aftermarket parts much cheaper. Think mine was around £400 fitted. These have good reputation https://aerosus.co.uk/bmw/5-series.html?gclid=CIaa...
Can't be worse than orginal
Check not issue with valve rather than air spring itself. Cheaper. Clue is intermittent fault.

Just had the dealer on the phone they think its the Air Supply Unit that supplies the rear springs.....talking about 1200 to do the work. Anyone recommend anyone in Essex to do it as alternative to BMW? Just talking to Warranty peopleCan't be worse than orginal

I have the insured warranty and it was far from simple to deal with because the dealer (sytner in cardiff) didn't seem to know how it worked. I offered to pay toward the repair parts so that I'd get parts warranty of two years but they said no need as the items replaced under the insured warranty are warranted for two years. I even got it in writing.
Apart from that they tried to avoid claiming on the insured warranty as I had a non BMW dealer stamp in the book.
As ever depends on where you go but all BMW dealers are far from equal.

Jesus Christ. It's a 240 quid part from eBay.de and 2 hours to diy fit.bmwmike said:

This is truely bizarre, it's bread and butter stuff for them! It'll come up on the system when the key is read that the car is covered. I'd imagine the majority of the work they do is warranty claims.Mind you I tried to buy a car from that dealer once and wasn't at all inspired.

As these get older, I can see a coil spring conversion being marketed. E39 and E61 Tourings can be converted easily enough.
Nobody bothers though? I don't think I've ever seen much talk of people doing spring conversions on 5 Series Tourings. It's not as if the rear suspension is huge money like say a DRC fitted Audi or something.Fox- said:

True enough, but the E39 set up was pretty reliable. Air bags are 100 quid each and a good used pump 100 quid. The F11 is less good though, major back order for bags indicating a real problem. They just shouldn't fail so soon.iSore said:

I don't think there is a major back order for bags any more - I agree it's piss poor they are failing. My father has a 3 year old LCI 520d Tourer which had a failed one picked up on it's first MOT. Quickly fixed under warranty with no parts lead time. Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
