2008 X5 3.0 SD Lost power
Discussion
I was driving up the motorway the other day, car running perfect. Then turning off the motorway to the car suddenly lost power. It feels a bit like there is no boost. It is driveable but only just, around town you can get away with it but on the motorway it struggles to keep up. There is no hesitation and the engine sounds fine revs happily and is running smooth. Just very down on power, like 50% down on power.
Any ideas?
Two things (I struggle to think either would be the cause but anyway):
I filled up 20 miles prior to the loss of power, could dodgy fuel be an issue? (a busy Shell station so dodgy fuel seems unlikely)
Oil service is 150 miles overdue, the car wouldn't limit performance due to this would it..?
Thanks,
Fred

The car has 2 turbos.
Does it have power at low revs which tails off quickly, or have no power until c2,500 rpm at which point it suddenly takes off ?
usually on this engine it is the latter scenario.
Either 1 or both pressure converters on the exhaust side are likely to have failed.
If no power anywhere it is likely to be a boost hose that has split or become disconnected.
Take it to a BMW independent, they'll very likely have seen the issue before and will know how to sort it out.

Get the service done at the same time.

This, but first I would check the vacuum hoses that run to the actuator. I used to keep a length in the boot to repair mine often. Especially where they run across the top of the upper turbo.Does it have power at low revs which tails off quickly, or have no power until c2,500 rpm at which point it suddenly takes off ?

Thanks. It's across the revenge so I guess a split hose makes sense. Any recommendations for an indy in North London?
Thanks,
Fred
Hi there Fred!Thanks,
Fred
I just wondered what you did to resolve the issue of the power loss
; I think I may have had the same issue you did! Many thanks!
