Hi all

I have a brand new X3 3.0D Msport+, picked up on 1st March 2017

The heater seems to only blow hot air when set to 28 degrees. It blows cool air right up to 27.5 then only when on 28 it blows hot air

Am I missing a new feature or button (that was not present on my 2013 F30) or do I need a trip back to the dealer to have this resolved?

Thanks

EU laws no longer allow air to be blown into the cabin at more than 28 degC, 2019 model will address this problem biggrin

Isn't it simply because its climate control?

The extremes of the scale (16 & 28) effectively act as "Low" and "High" as seen on some makes (VAG?).

Depending on the ambient temperature, it will blow hot or cold air to reach the selected temperature - but on either 16 or 28 it will either keep cooling or keep heating.

Check what the knurled wheel between the airvents in the middle of the car is set to.

It could be that is set cold (blue) and therefore although it will be warming up the car from elsewhere, the vents will be blowing cooler air.

Also, make sure it is set to Auto.

My car is always set 18degs C and I just adjust the temp by this knurled wheel by the vents. In the mornings it is a bit chillier, so want a bit of warmth on me, but in the evenings obviously the opposite. Never touch the Climate Control - it's left to do its thing.

As the poster above I have had the same problem increase temp but still cold and the vent in the middle is still set to cold and vice versa.

Drives me mad, I cannot understand why it is even needed, but in one case it does allow infinite possibility instead of relying on the 0.5 degree the climate does.

TBH, I find it brilliant.

Recently had a Skoda with Climate Control, but I was forever having to change the temperature, whereas a little "trim wheel" would've done the trick for the times where you're quite happy with a warm car, but just want a bit of cool air on your face (or vice versa). I think the BMW System is good, but you have to use it as intended.

Thanks Chaps, I feel slightly silly having not noticed the temperature indication on the knurled dial.. I'll give this a go on the way to work tomorrow morning!

+1

Sometimes I want to cool the car down but don't want a chilled blast in my face!

The idea of turning the centre dial to the blue setting to have cold air blowing on the driver's face regardless of the climate control temperature setting, is to help avoid drivers falling asleep at the wheel.

ALL BMWs have this problem. I currently have an X3, earlier I had at least 2 3 Series (320d), another one 325 d, then 2 5-series (520d). ALL of them had exactly the same problem.
You set the temperature at 27.5 its cold, you make it 28, it starts boiling. I am just living it with.
BMW dont know how to run their heating system period.
I drive 3 hours to my work 1 day in a week, and I have to keep on adjusting the temperature between 27.5 and 28 multiple times in the journey.

Atleast everyone can see you're driving a BMW and don't know you're either freezing or boiling hehe
