The Carly software is for tablets/phone only isn't it? I have an official Carly OBD adaptor, it's bluetooth not wired.

To answer your question though - the Google Play or iOS app store.

Carly can become quite expensive. The more features you unlock the more you pay. Anything between £80-120

Holy thread revival! I've just bought a Carly adaptor and paid for the BMW upgrade in the app. It has successfully diagnosed that I need to replace the rear right wheel speed sensor, but any thoughts on what side right is (will obviously be different depending on if you're in front of or behind the car)? Assuming offside?

Good question - I've seen VW diagnostic software (VCDS) that is set up for a LHD car, so will call the passenger seat the right hand side one. But for BMWs it's usually consistent - so rear right as you sit in the drivers seat will indeed be the offside.
If you have INPA (or know someone who has) you can use live monitoring of wheel speeds & see where the defective sensor is as a result.

Great thanks! Luckily the sensor will work either side so if I need to swap it's not the end of the world, but always good to at least attempt with the correct side first.

Or unplug the offside front speed sensor. You should then know what Carly is telling you. smile

All the DTC’s I’ve ever encountered, will always show left/right, as though you’re sat in the driver’s seat smile

For example, ‘Left Hand side ABS sensor’, is on your passenger side, if you’re in a RHD car. Or on the driver’s side, if you’re in a LHD car.

Thanks all! Will report back once the sensor has arrived and I've been able to confirm.

Right side is right side, when facing the direction of forward travel. Car manufacturers never talk about ‘offside’ nor ‘near side’.

Just to confirm now that 'right' was drivers side. Immediately after changing the rear right ABS sensor, Carly then told me to change the left too so I ordered another one and fingers crossed, lights are off now, fault codes are cleared and all seems to be good!

Decent adaptor/app for the money and has paid for itself already. Had the sinking feeling in my stomach as I ran the tampered mileage check but luckily all came back clear, so good to know my car has never been clocked too.

Good work all round!

BMWs will tell you if they've been clocked. Since the early 90s there's bee the Mileage tamper dot in the cluster. If the VIN, or mileage from the light module, instrument cluster or elsewhere these days doesn't line up the tamper dot goes on.

It's not 100% fool proof, but helps weed out the really dodgy cars.

I've found Carly to be very good; it's limited to what it can do on E39s etc, but came in very handy when I was chasing a few issues on a previous E65

For a plug n play diagnostics tool and coding too; it works very well indeed smile

I'm looking to buy one to code some things on my E46, the adapters still sell for decent money on eBay.

Bimmercode is an alternative, much cheaper but not compatible with the E46

Having used both a cheap bluetooth OBD adapter and the Torque app then the Carly OBD adapter and software on an E63 the Carly is system is easily worth what you pay for it
