Anyone driven a 750i xDrive?
Discussion
Morning all,
I've tried searching the various forums and PH style websites but can't find much in the way of feedback/reviews for the new 750i. I realise it's not the best selling BMW by any stretch of the imagination but has anyone on here driven one? If so, what did you think? Does the V8 and M Sport kit offer any character?
I have a 2014 Panamera Turbo S and my annual mileage looks like it's about to increase quite dramatically. I only want one car to do everything and putting 12-15k miles per annum on my Turbo S is not an appealing prospect so I'm tempted to swap.
Comfort is a must and while the Panamera is great in that respect, I am sure a 7 series would be even better. Given recent 750i M sports are now relative bargains, they do look quite appealing. I'm slightly concerned they might be too dull coming from the big Porsche.
They aren't easy to test and the nearest one is well over an hour away.
Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

Are you referring to the new G11 series 7 or the older F01?
The biggest issue in either is actually sadly the lack of knowledge among the dealerships with either of the above as they are so god dam rare in the UK because they are petrol (I have had a few BMW tech's admit that to me).
The early N63 (4.4 litre V8) seems at least over the pond hugely troublesome whatever car it is installed in with multiple drivetrain issues, mostly excessive oil consumption and coolant lines not up to the task (or lack of adequate heat resistance) and many got replaced up to and including full engine replacement.
The upgraded N63tu seems less troublesome overall (although the M version being the S63 seems even less troublesome than either), whether it has had more upgrades in the new G11 I am not sure, but either F01/G11 will have the N63 in some form.

They might be rare in general but I'm sure I saw 2 or 3 at Hindhead Surrey Dealership a couple of months back in a cool purple hue, black and silver.
Also Farnborough had one in the dealership which I sat in. Very comfy seats
Maybe ignore the above! I didnt read X drive bit.... So the cars I saw might be the regular 750i's....

Thanks for the replies so far. I am considering one of the new shape, so up to a year old more or less. I hadn’t realised there had been any engine trouble on recent models, so useful to have the heads up on that.
As far as I know, all new 750i models are x drive. There’s no option to add it on the configuring page so I think that must be the case.

I'm not convinced xDrive is available on RHD V8s, I may be wrong though. I was mulling over one myself but as I found my old F10 550 a touch dull it may be worth holding out for an M760li next year.
I had a 730d xDrive for a week but interior improvements aside it didn't drive any better than my 2013 F01 730d, was hoping something petrol powered would help matters.

You're absolutely right, x drive is only on the models you said; the diesels and the 760. I would prefer to have x drive but it's not necessarily a deal breaker.
Having something with a bit of character is more important to me. If the 550 was dull, I don't hold out a lot of hope for the 750.

The 760 is something else.... it destroys an M3 either off the line then accelerated away or from 50mph it’s in an utterly different league of performance.
Cooper BMW Reading have one in the showroom 760iL I think looking st the rear legroom.
I saw the same video https://youtu.be/pBcMKb6aN9k - very impressive for such a heavy lump!Cooper BMW Reading have one in the showroom 760iL I think looking st the rear legroom.
The M760 is only available in the long wheelbase Li format.
The performance will be very similar to my Turbo S, which as you say, is unbelievable off the line but even more so at higher speeds - almost too much for the UK. Unfortunately, they're not at the money yet where they're in budget. Next year maybe!
There are plenty of year old 750i models on the market for good money, and they probably offer an excellent balance of running costs and performance.

Anyone driven both the 750i/750iX G1x and M550iX G30?
Does the G1x feel as big as the current S-class to drive/manoeuvre?
Feels smaller to me plus it drives SO much better. I drove different variants of the 7 and S-Class, SWB and LWB a couple of years ago in the hunt for a luxury barge. Was the intention to buy something approx. a year old. For the last year I've been running a G12 LWB as a daily driver which imo was a far better drive than any of the S-Class models. Car felt lighter, more responsive and planted than the S, better even than the much smaller F10 we have. Not sure how much the carbon core effects things but it's a huge improvement on the old 7. Swinging round corners/roundabouts in town makes the car feel deceptively small. Was also looking at a newish S63 coupe not so long ago and found the handling shameful compared to BMWs. The back end had a mind of it's own unless you had everything turned on. And then it ruined the drive. I haven't owned any Mercs for years but the sales guy said that's just how they are. Nice place to sit though (except for the horrendous 'ipads' slapped onto the dash). If you're not doing the driving yourself possibly a S (rear is a bit more comfortable I'd say) but otherwise I'd go 7.Does the G1x feel as big as the current S-class to drive/manoeuvre?

Any particular reason why? Lovely car, I'd be quite happy to spend 12-15k miles per year in it.Osinjak said:

A good friend here has access to a M760i and really raves about it for both long motorway drives and going over the local passes. I haven't driven it but have experience with a Wraith with effectively the same engine and it was lovely - super smooth with as much performance as you could ever want in a luxury car.
Here in Switzerland it seems like the only 7 series with non-diesel engines are now the hybrids so there are a few unregistered 750s and 760s at decent prices.
