Hi guys,

Something strange happened today.... Cold morning, car started fine, maybe a split second longer than usual due to the cold weather. Car has been not been moved since Friday.

Drove <0.5 mile, no problems noticed. Then drove down the road to the petrol station, filled up and upon starting the car I noticed the revs were sitting higher than usual at a tad over 1k, I could hear the difference in the sound of the engine which did not happen on my earlier trips. Put it down to a cold morning and maybe the auto choke..

Then I noticed I had lost power and the car felt sluggish, it was like driving without the turbo, no shove - or what little shove can be expected from a 320d! No warning lights on dash etc.

Drove like this for a few miles no change. Pulled over turned car off and back on again and the problem went away. Very strange.

Any ideas? E46 320d 191k, full history never skimped on and has been until now completely problem free!

Get her plugged in but my guess is boost/map sensor. They have a habit of clogging up. Good shot of carb or contact cleaner or replace it about 60 quid

Perhaps turbo variable vanes are sticking.

hi I have a bmw e46 320cd
the car drives absolutely fine, but I have noticed on some days could be every morning or every other day I loose boost completely feels like I have no turbo at all. I have no warning lights on the dash just sudden lose of boost then it can randomly gain boost when it reaches normal engine temperature ?

any thoughts on what this could be ?
