e92 330d weird clutch sticking issue
Discussion
I've had my 2007 e92 330d manual for 5 years with no major faults (other than the dodgy alloys BMW refused to replace as they had been repaired before BMW started replacing them).
It had a new clutch when I bought it and I reckon I've put about 30,000 miles on it, mostly very sensible driving and mostly motorway.
A few days ago I noticed an occasional slight feeling in my right foot as I came of the clutch, I thought it was my new shoes maybe rubbing against each other.
20 miles later I realised upon lifting the clutch, after it comes back past the biting point, there was some resistance and as it passes this point you can feel a slight bump in all 3 pedals. It's felt more when accelerating in first (from a stand still), but is still felt even if accelerator is not pressed at all.
Happens in any gear and also in neutral, but more pronounced in first. Have done 100 motorway miles changing as little as possible and in those 100 miles it has definitely got worse, it feels like it could almost get stuck on the way back up.
On the way down I can feel a slight bit of friction towards the end as I depress the clutch (80% of the way down).
There is no noise to accompany this and no juddering or other indication of something wrong. Just the feeling in the pedals.
Any ideas what this could be? A bit hard to explain.

It could possibly be the master cylinder - this would be the ideal place to check first. Might be possible to rebuild it with some new seals, fresh fluid etc.
Another possibility is a a worn pivot ball / fork (or equivalent) In truth, the only way to find out what is wrong is to start taking it apart (but methodically, obviously start with the easiest thing first). Thankfully, clutch assemblies are pretty simple to tracking down the issue shouldnt be difficult.
Another thing to consider is the peddle assembly itself.

Thanks for all the replies. Took to the mechanic it was chocka and I couldn’t wait to put it on the ramp as was leaving for Xmas (and car not moving until I come back).
Mechanic’s hunch is the pedal assembly or a bushing or loose rod somewhere. He reckons he’ll be able to see the issue right away on the ramp and shouldn’t be a big deal to fix.
Will get it on the ramp in a couple of weeks.

I would have suggested lubricating the pivots of the pedals, but I don't understand why you feel it in your right foot when you are using your left on the clutch unless the whole pedal box is moving.Just got back in the car after coming back from Xmas. Felt a bit more weird than usual without turning engine on, looked more closely, seems floor mat wasn’t put back right after last car wash and it was catching slightly on the back of the clutch pedal. ??
Feel like a right idiot! Oh well at least it’s not mechanical!
(Seems depending on where my feet were in the footwell the feeling was more or less pronounced)

well done , cover/over mats should have a fixing/location system on BMW cars usually to avoid this very concern
had this happen on a Honda Prelude auto many moons ago just after I kicked it down
its amazing how long those moment lasts whilst you engage brain engage N and switch off and pull over feel
was a suprise to me as it had never happened previously in the time I owned it needless to say those mats got thrown out never to see a foot-well again

My old 330ci floor mats did have fixing points, my current floor mats have velcro - guess that means they're not BMW mats. Never noticed before.
