BMW 420d - Horning when locked with engine running
Discussion
Hi guys
I've been leasing a 420d for 18 months, and whenever its cold and i'm due to leave home at 7am, I usually pop out and turn the engine, heated seats and heaters on to clear the ice and warm up the car.
Car is on a gated, private drive so not worried about leaving it running.
Up until my last service, I would lock the doors with the engine etc running, and head back inside with the key in my pocket.
Since that service, whenever I lock the doors, the horn beeps twice. As this is usually pre 7am, it isn't very courteous to my neighbours, so would like to turn this off
Any ideas how?

I doubt the less than a second of horn beeping isn’t As annoying as the long droning rattle of a Diesel engine.
Most likely a service update. Probs a option to turn it off in the menus
I bet people with keyless complained they had left the engine on and came back to no fuel so BMW have added this so the horn beeps and you realise something is up.

Probably, but I've done c.55k miles in 18 months so I picked my wallet over engine noise! I also know my neighbour gets in from his night shifts at around 6am, so would prefer not to annoy him when he's trying to get some kip. I've apologised and said I'd try and get it sorted, which is the main reason for my post

Apologised for what? The horn or the far more annoying engine being left to run?
‘horning’ sounds dubious
You need to get the car reprogrammed to disable HU_NBT (3000) ACOUSTICAL_LOCK_CONFIRM. The dealer can do this, hopefully for free since you never asked for it to be enabled. Otherwise there are various dongles and apps you can try to DIY it, but it may take perseverance

You might not be, your insurer probably would. The car can easily be driven away as the gearbox is not locked out like some remote starters etc.I've been leasing a 420d for 18 months, and whenever its cold and i'm due to leave home at 7am, I usually pop out and turn the engine, heated seats and heaters on to clear the ice and warm up the car.

But yes probably an update as I have never heard mine do it when I lock it to clean the windscreen of frost.

Isn't that the horm "chirp" when you lock it? The OP is talking about the warning you get when the key is outside of a locked car with the engine running which is a couple of full on horn blasts, but I believe you can code that out as well. In Bimmercode it appears to be labelled as "Horn at lock with engine running" which equates to switching off "CLM_HORN_AT_SECURE" in the FEM_01 module, not tried coding it myself but know the "feature" you mean as mine did it once when I was defrosting the car with the engine running early one morning and as I got out and shut the door I locked it out of habit without thinking! You need to get the car reprogrammed to disable HU_NBT (3000) ACOUSTICAL_LOCK_CONFIRM.

Carly for BMW app and dongle will allow you to change it.
Sorry for the thread resurrection but I am trying to disable the beeping on lock with engine running and can't find a setting in Carly that will allow this, are you sure it's possible and if so under what heading is it?ETA: I have read other threads saying it is and it is under the Alarm heading but it's not there in the features for my car so maybe it is model dependant.
Thanks.
