Hi all,

I've recently purchased a nearly new F30 340i. Unfortunately mine came with the standard brakes, which I find to be a bit of a weak point. I'm considering asking the dealer if it's possible to purchase the M sport brake upgrade and have them fit them to my car.

Has anyone here had any experience of the standard brakes versus the M sport brakes, and can you comment on how good/bad/indifferent the M sport brake kit is? Mine has the 19" wheels so I don't expect any clearance issues with the larger callipers.

Thanks in advance.

I'd just buy a set off Ebay and fit them.

Will be indefinitely cheaper than going to BMW. I don't reckon you'd get much change from £1500.

I can't give a comparison, but I found the standard brakes to be more than adequate for day to day use, but then it was only a lowly 328i hehe

Plus you can fit 17" winter wheels if you feel the need.

Are there any other options for after market brake upgrades that anyone has used?

M sport brakes and discs can take from 18” rims and upwards.

I've driven plenty of F30s with standard brakes and my current car is an F30 335i with M sport brakes.

Interested to know what issues you're having with the standard brakes. IME, you have to be punishing them hard on the road to experience fade but it's possible.

The M Sport brakes work well, although I've had one issue with them once the pads were fairly low during motorway driving in the wet. There's supposed to be an 'auto-dry' function which works in conjunction with the wiper setting and presses the pads against the rotors automatically to prevent a film of water building up.

Whether it's a fault with my particular car or not, I don't know but I had a few occasions where I'd brake from high speed in the wet and there'd be no bite. It felt a bit like pad knock-off if you know that feeling.

I did a bit of Googling and this has been reported by other F30 owners but there wasn't a definitive cause/solution to it other than to fit the BMW dimpled/grooved brake discs and that's what I've done. So far, no problems so hopefully that's fixed it.

HTH.
