F10 520d first service?!
Discussion
My dad's just taken his F10 520D in to the dealership for it's first service at 15,000 miles. He was told that he had a service package and didn't have to pay anything so walked away quite happy with himself for having bought the service package when he bought the car.
Fast forward a few days and now BMW have called him saying that he now owes them £370 for an oil change. Turns out the service package was on his old car and they'd made a mistake in invoicing him. He's currently got an invoice outlining a microfilter and oil change for £0 and an egr software remap for £0 and they've called up asking for £370.
What do we do here? The charge for the service seems way too high for just an oil change, I wouldn't have thought it would have cost more than £200-250 for an oil change. It seems like they've made a mistake and now they're taking the piss by charging £370 for an oil and filter change.
They're also saying that because we've done the first service, we're no longer eligible to purchase the service pack. The way I see it, if we were told the price of the service beforehand (£370) and told that we didn't have the service pack (which costs £400 and covers 3 services) it's a no brainer that we would've purchased the service pack, however that's impossible to do if you're told by the BMW employee that you do indeed have the service pack.
Can anyone give me a rough idea of what an oil service should cost for a 520d? I really can't see any reason for it to be £370.

Ah BMW doing their kwik fit impression again
I be telling them that if they'd not said the service pack was in place I'd have gone elsewhere. It's their fault, after all so they have a cheek looking for the full non discounted price. Meet them half way I guess or tell them to come and take the oil and filters back.

I'd say they haven't given you a chance to go elsewhere based on them not providing a quote/price beforehand by telling you it was free, I'd argue back that you're not willing to pay more than £XXX and I'd get a quote from another dealer to back that up.
They are taking the piss a bit after all mistakes do happen but they don't appear to be willing to wear any of their mistake, in fact I'm not sure but wasn't the contract concluded when they handed you an invoice for £0? Not sure on the legal bit of that.

I don't know how they can say it has a service pack then it aint, surely when they checked the reg no it must have said it had a service pack. I would argue that point, then tell them to do one. I bought my car AUC and when I checked on line it said I have a service pack valid to 2019
Speaking as an experienced service advisor it’s not an easy mistake to make, assuming the BMW dealer uses the 1link authority system, as you physically have to input the registration and mileage of the vehicle, unless the owner transferred a private plate over and the dealers systems haven’t been updated? I don’t know about other dealerships but the first thing I do with a customer is walk around their vehicle with them and check the reg.
Service packages usually stay with the vehicle. However I always check and double check as expensive mistakes like that could potentially end up with me paying for it out of my own pocket! The role of a service advisor can be busy but it isn’t rocket science to get the basics right. We all make errors, but mistakes like this baffle me.
