7 Series G12 (Rear Seat Entertainment)

Currently have a folder full of about 100 dvds for the kids which is pain in the a*#s. Has anyone used Chromecast and Netflix via the app to stream to the rear TV system? Or is it possible to connect an external HD via the HDMI input? Not sure if the BMW system would recognise the files etc.
