Coding a new (second hand) airbag module - E46
Discussion
Hi all,
I have an E46 M3 track car, which is fitted with Sparco Pro 2000 seats and racing harnesses. The factory passenger occupancy mat sensor and associated wiring has been removed from the car, as have the pre-tensioners. I was planning to code out these sensors from the MRS4 module.
Those are somewhat easier to fixes / minor details compared to what I found out at the weekend – that someone in the car’s previous life has removed the airbag controller entirely! Presumably this was to switch off the airbag light (why they couldn’t just pull fuse #11 or disconnect the module and leave it in place are beyond me). So, obviously I will need to replace that.
I have ordered 2 replacements off eBay: 1 new in box (albeit 10 years old), and another more regular used item. Both have a part number which is compatible with my VIN, as confirmed on realOEM.com
I will eventually need to code the MRS4 module to remove the passenger occupancy mat and pre-tensioner requirements and I think that, provided I can get my computer communicating with the car, I have an understanding of how to do that with NCSExpert and NCSDummy. I would trial that on the cheaper unit first.
Before I can even get to that point, however, I need to code the module(s) to my VIN. Does anyone have a guide as to how to do this, both for the used unit and the new in box one?
I’ve found plenty online re: changing the coding on an existing unit, but not so much on getting either a new new or second hand one coded to the VIN.
Thank you!
