Hi,

I'm looking at getting myself a 2013 320d with heated leather seats, sat nav, cruise etc. Which is everything that I'm looking for in my next car, with 78,000 miles with a current asking price of £8995. The only issue I have with the car is having asked for the service history, there are only two services in the idrive, one at 20k and the second at 38k miles. After this there is nothing, and the seller did not provide any receipts for any services he did to the garage. So apart from the oil being relatively fresh and at a high level, they have no proof of it being well serviced and maintained.
My question is, is it worth the risk? In my area there are some of similar price but without the heated leather seats.
Thanks for any advice you may have.

Run away.

You could buy it at a knock down price, but then when you sell, you will have to sell it cheap also, as there is no history.

If there are any BMW Service Enhancements or whatever they call their Recall scheme (like they did for the 320d timing chain fiasco issues) then you won't get any support. Likely any aftermarket warranties will be useless too.

Your choice though. You like to gamble?

That's what I was thinking and will probably do. Shame as its exact one I want, just a poor service history.

Thanks

Perhaps if really keen , try and investigate further to see if it was done and just missing from I drive. Otherwise I’d say either travelling to find one properly serviced or retrofitting heated seats is a better option than taking a risk on a car which may not have had the necessary servicing done.

There is one available right next to where I work (same spec but in white instead of grey), but it has 112k miles on the clock. They are after £8,000 (so only a grand less than the one with 78k miles), but this does have full service history. What do you think is a decent price to offer them?

Is it a private sale or a dealer?
£8k seems about going rate on A/trader.

If it’s private I’d put reg and details into a site like WBAC or anywhere to get a trade value and then offer seller something attractive above that price but attractively less than 8k for you.
As there’s so many , won’t likely be that quick a sale and seller may be facing a trade in so beating that price can be a win win situation.

With a dealer , they’ve possibly paid trade or part ex price for it so you’ll have an idea what that is and again it’s worth starting higher than that but still aim to get something off 8k£.

You’ll have to go higher than you would with a private seller though.

It's a trade seller. Autotrader valuation gives it a part ex price of 6500 and a private price of 7500. I wouldve thought an extra 34k miles wouldve taken off more of the price than just a grand though?

I guess there isn’t the margin to reduce price by that much for the extra miles.

Even at north of 100k miles , this is still a 2013 (I assume) BMW.

Ultimately , you’ve got to decide how much you willin to pay and start to offer beneath that.

Email or call BMW customers services (details below) and see if the car went to BMW and the info is just missing from the idrive. It does happen.

Or email us on:
customer.service@bmw.co.uk
We aim to respond within 48 hours.

Or call us on:

The garage said the owner didn't go to a BMW garage to get it done. They are saying that the owner has said it was serviced but didn't keep receipts. However he did keep receipts for brake pads and tyres.

As per my earlier suggestion you could investigate further, with owner, if really keen.
He perhaps did it with garage that couldn’t upload service history. But if they were contacted , they could provide duplicate invoices.

Owner details will be on V5.

It sold in the end before the weekend, so I couldn't even go view it.
Viewed another which is for sale for £7995 with 112k miles. Checked the idrive, 3 services up to 80k miles, first at 38k, second at 59k and the third at 80k. There were also holes in the fog light surrounds which he tried to pass off as air vents...
I left straight away after that, shame that there isn't much for a good price locally to me. Whenever I put the reg number and mileage into WBAC or AT, they're valued quite a bit less than their asking price.
