E53 4.8IS M3 E46 SMG Steering Wheel Retrofit

Several years ago I had a 4.6is X5 which I retrofitted the E46 SMG steering wheel to so I had paddle shift. It was a simple job of swapping the clock spring which was PNP and making a loom up to plug into the connector by the gear selector. Does anyone know if it is this simple on the 4.8is, as I have just bought one to do tow car duties etc. and it would be much better with paddles!
