My 2014 1 series has just started having issues with the washer jets.

The rear seems fine but the two fronts will spray perfectly well when I first turn them on but then they immediately pulse small amounts of screen wash.

If I constantly turn them on and off they wil spray ok.

Is this the classic screen wash turn to gel issue and what’s the simple way to solve it?

Thanks

On another forum someone with similar symptoms flushed their system: they disconnected the tubes just before the bonnet nozzle and then ran the washer continuously, collecting the water in a container at the bonnet end, and replenishing with plain water continuously into the reservoir. the latter to make sure the motor didn't run dry. The photo they showed was of very cloudy washer fluid in the collector. They just kept flushing this way until the fluid ran clear.

If this worked for you, you would then need to make the decision about whether to conform to the 'BMW concentrate Only' policy, or not. Plenty of threads on this on all the BMW forums.

Cheers - I’ll give the flush through a go when I get a chance this weekend.

I've done this on my E46 and my E86. frown

Reservoir out, pumps out, filters cleaned with a toothbrush, reservoir flushed then all put back together with fresh screen-wash - all good after that! But don't mix screen-wash.

Well flushing made no difference at all. Taking the whole lot out looks a right palaver but I’m actually thinking of trading the car in at the end of April so may avoid doing it. Silver linings and all that wink

Yes, I know what you mean!

I just replaced my E46 with an E91 and the reservoir is tucked inside the O/S/F wing behind the wheel-arch liner - yours probably is too!

So I'd be less keen to have to remove that for a clean out - think I'll just bite the bullet and keep using BMW fluid!

Yes mine is behind the wheel arch liner - bloody stupid packaging smile

For the avoidance of hassle I’d agree, use the BMW stuff.
