340i More power!!
Discussion
Morning all chaps,
So some will know I have a 67 plate 340i with the Power and sound kit on.
However the car steel feels like it can give so much more and not as quick as I thought it would be with 360bhp.
Now I’m thinking of having another power module fitting but not sure due to warranty concerns etc so.
Has anyone used JFAutomotive ?

Thoughts as it’s only a thought at this stage.

Personally I'd hold out for the ECU unlocking, of the performance boxes I've used and read reviews of they're never as smooth as a proper remap. There was a few guys who had JB4 boxes on x35i models and moved to a traditional remap now the ECUs are unlocked, a lot have commented how much smoother the map is. The JB4 gets the numbers up and provides the extra power but it just adds a dollop of boost on top of whats already there.
Did you have the MPPSK fitted from new? I have a 340i coming and cant decide if I should run it standard for a bit or just get the kit fitted before I pick it up.

Yeah I rolled it all into the package at the time. So I picked the car up with the M performance kit on and power kit etc Carbon tail tips and carbon spoiler
The rest of the body kit I left black
The sound is fab.

Never heard of them, but I've been out of the BMW tuning loop for nearly a year now since selling my 135i.So some will know I have a 67 plate 340i with the Power and sound kit on.

Personally, while still under warranty, I wouldn't touch a remap or piggy-back tuner.
What about an intercooler change?
I had a drop-in Forge Motorsport I/C fitted to my 135i while still under warranty, and with the BMW Performance exhaust fitted, when I did a before and after run on SRR's dyno, the Forge added 19hp, and gave a much better throttle response as well.
If you want any more power then you may run into problems with the remap you've already got.
A remap from another company will have been developed on the standard car, so the remap you have already will be overwritten.
Likewise, a tuning "box" will also have been developed on the standard car, and may not work alongside a remap.
I would also say that if you increase power further you're going to need a LSD.

Ah that’s a really good point that I hadn’t thought of, I wouldn’t want to loose what iv got but didn’t think about the practicality of how to “stack more power on”
LSD would be a nice to have anyway.
The other thing to bear in mind is how the extra power is delivered - if it's all above 5000rpm then it's not going to be that usable.LSD would be a nice to have anyway.

The MPPSK isn't a 'remap' as such but a whole new ECU from BMW, there are lots of people using JB4 boxes with a MPPSK over on N54tech.com. A remap from another company will have been developed on the standard car, so the remap you have already will be overwritten.

I love my 340. But If I could get more power or have it at least feel lighter on its toes.
6 months in do I hold tight and wait for more performance mods or just say sod it and buy M3/M4 as I’m thinking that’s what I should have done.
I will get spanked by the dealer cost wise and beat up by the wife haha

Ok so let’s look at a sensible option then. We don’t want to to trade up as if loose too much.
Due to it being so new I feel like a pioneer/ test mule/ maverick haha.
Ok so out of BMW’s options list (to keep in warranty)
We want:
LSD
Height adjustable springs?
Ask for a further tune?
I will pick up a new parts brochure tomorrow to see what else can be done.

I don't think the height adjustable suspension is available on the 340i - only the M2/M3/M4 (at least the M Performance). Otherwise it lowers the vehicle between 0 and 20mm depending on the model.Due to it being so new I feel like a pioneer/ test mule/ maverick haha.

There is an adjustable kit from ACS, but at ~£2500 it ain't cheap.

I love the full M Performance kit but I'll need to wait it out a bit before getting anything else. I'm leaning towards getting the MPPSK from the off though, if nothing else for the noise!
