My wifes F35 X3 has the folding anti-dazzle mirrors, but only the interior and offside mirror actually dim... the passenger (or near-side) doesn't, thinking this was a fault i got her to book in to have it fixed. Sytners have since called and said this is a feature and that only the drivers side is supposed to dim... can anyone confirm that's true? its a 2017 3.0d M sport if that makes a difference...

both mirrors on my M4 used to dim. a quick google doesn't seem to suggest its just one (or indeed both) mirros that are supposed to dim, seems daft only one doing it!

any thoughts?

I'm sure all mine, BMWs and Mercs are the same as yours.

well i phoned BMW customer services and they confirmed both mirrors should dim, so someone at Sytners doesn't have a scooby which is a joke!

My F31 only dims on the drivers side.

The glass is completely different - the dimming mirror has a blue outline (whixh reverses/flips to the center area when dimming) whereas the passenger side is the normal mirror

Put your vin number into a vin decoder, you are looking for code 430.

430 Auto-dimming interior & driver exterior mirror.

They may do, but if he puts his vin in a vin decoder it will tell him if the car was specced with drivers side or both.

so does that mean on the drivers side should be anti-dazzle? have X3's always been like this? or is this a cost saving measure by BMW?

My X3 is a November 2016 build and only the drivers side mirror dims. I remember at the time I ordered it that BMW changed the spec for the 2017 model year slightly by deleting the dimming passenger side mirror. Sounds incredibly tight fisted of them, but there's nothing wrong with your car.

I've no idea if the wiring is still intact, but if so you could always buy a replacement with the dimming element which could sort things. I'm sometimes tempted to do this but so far it's not annoyed me enough to actually do anyuthng about it.

Seems a very odd cost cutting measure .. the whole point of having dimming mirrors and paying extra for it is that ALL the mirrors dim !

My 2017 X3 is the same. When I asked the dealer they contacted BMW who replied that as the near side mirror was convex it wasn’t necessary to have it dimming.
I pointed out that the offside was also convex but did dim, to which they had no answer.

I drive a lot on unlit roads and unlit motorway’s at night

To me dimming mirrors was an essential option ... you can still easily be dazzled through the n/s mirror

It’s a silly cost cutting that would make me look elsewhere next time
