BMW Connected Drive
Discussion
I've had loads of hassle trying to renew the subscriptions for my BMW connected drive services. It's taken weeks for them to take the payment as the web portal does not work.
On Monday I received an email saying payment has been taken and the services have been added (RTTI and online). Yesterday the car lost all connected drive services.
I spoke to BMW Connected drive support today, they said that various people are affected and they've had problems for 2 months!
It's not very impressive.

I noticed a couple of days ago that there were problems on my X5 (no problem on the wife’s i3).
Started with it not recognising my sign in for email, then the weather app gave an error of ‘no gps’, (however sat nav was working). Finally, no ‘news’.
Called BMW today, who advised that there was a problem affecting some users and they were looking into it.
Only suggestion they made was to try updating the software.

No working fine ... if you still have a problem could be worth speaking to BMW in case they have to remotely fix something.
I've spoken to BMW several times over the last week. Not everyone is affected, but they currently can't fix the ones that are. In fact when they refresh the services it gets worse.Had numerous issues with my connected drive.
What I find most frustrating is the lack of information or communication, they have every ones email address yes fail to notify people if there is as an issue.
Only via social media and sites like this do you become aware that its not your car that at fault.
COME ON BMW GET IT SORTED....................................................

Seeing this topic prompted me to contact BMW to be told that they were aware of the problem, and that it would be fixed 'as soon as possible', without any idea of when this was. I then spoke to the complaints team as I'm not happy paying for the non functioining Online Entertainment service. They did some diagnostics checks but couldn't say whether they'd been successful or not.
Lo and behold, jumped into the car for the drive home and it's now working perfectly. Hopefully they've managed to sort this issue, but I'm not holding my breath.......

My over the air map updates haven’t worked since I got the car a couple of months ago. Spoke to BMW connected drive team who are useless, takes a lot of explaining for them to understand what I’m referring to, and had to get my dealer on the phone to explain I had the service! They say it’s a global problem with a ‘master ticket’ raised in Germany, but no explanation on the problem or when it’ll be fixed, despite it working for other people.
Not the end of the world but annoying paying for something that doesn’t work (it’s a standard option but you still pay for it by virtue of buying the car)

I've had no luck, other than they have take a payment from my account. That's quite cheeky considering I now have less services than I did before they 'helped'.
I have given up calling them so I have sent an email to the connected drive team and BMW customer services. I wonder what they are going to do.
I did want an i8 to replace the M5, but I now have very little faith in BMW's ability to run electronic systems....

I seem to be having a similar problem. I've had my used F30 for about 3 months and I found out last week that the car already was subscribed to the basic service. When I first plugged in my phone to connect I got loads of apps showing ie Calendar, Twitter etc and the mileage and fuel data appeared on my phone. Now all that info has gone. Locate vehicle, Navigation, locking etc al work though.

Anybody else having any issues with connecting iPhone to BMW Connected services. I can’t get beyond screen ‘Configuration for iPhone Apps loaded.’
Me! Ever since i got a 'no signal' message. Its a fault on the unit im told. Its booked into have it looked at next week (again!). Its been in already and they 'updated the software' which did nothing. Im told they will likely replace the whole head unit this time.

I too have wasted hours today trying to pay the ransom money BMW want for continued use of options on my car.
The ConnectedDrive.co.uk website doesn't work properly, even after I downloaded/installed/used Google Chrome (which I didn't want to do for various privacy reasons) as instructed by the ConnectedDrive customer service people. They can't/won't take payment over the 'phone. Dealership say they can't help either.
I'm not one for angry rants and complaining, but come on BMW - this is beyond the pale. You have removed functionality from my car, demanded a payment to restore it and failed to provide any way in which this payment can be made. You have also wasted my time and sapped my energy dealing with your own failures.
I don't agree with the model of car options dressed up as "services".
It's shameful that you are imposing this with supporting infrastructure that doesn't work.
I am going to go and make a big fuss in person in the middle of the showroom at my supplying dealer, and am posting here to encourage anyone else experiencing similar difficulties to do exactly the same.

I rang them up, spoke to them calmly and they gave me a year free when I asked if there was a way of compensating me for the system not working very well. Being polite and calm is your friend.
This is always the best first way and also the nicest and most stress free. If they decline and are completely unreasonable and your own position is reasonable (ask a friend for confirmation) then progress to nuclear options.WindyCommon said:

That seems quite easy to buy services on.

A year free of a badly designed and implemented solution that constantly fails to work. Bargain.
