I recently bought an E91 from a classified advert.

The seller is a fireman, but part-time trader who used to work for a Mercedes main agent. One of his sources is the part-Exs his former employer didn't/wouldn't/couldn't put on their forecourt.

Anyway my car has a stamped service book, but also this print-out detailing 21 visits to main agents. Sadly though I have no invoices so have no idea what was done each time.

Does anybody know where he might have got this from - I'm guessing he has a contact who can get into a BMW database but am intrigued?

Also, does anyone know how I can find out what work was done each time? Would I get any information calling the dealers in question?

Thanks in advance for any tips or advice. thumbup

Service books and stamps can be bought off eBay. If the book was so diligently stamped then where is all the paperwork.

The invoices would have also given you a more detailed history about what other repairs and maintenance have been carried out such as recalls, coil packs, suspension bushes etc.

I know they can be bought, but given it's only had 3 previous keepers in 12 years and is in really clean condition my feeling is it has been looked after properly - which is exactly why I'm keen to find out what was done and when!

Thanks anyway.

Why don’t you pop in to your local dealer with the paperwork you have, people are often more helpful face to face, I’m sure they’ll help.

It might be a print out of the service / maintenance database whatever it’s called.
I Have screen shots of such from cars I’ve looked into.

I tend to agree with Gunk , pop into your local dealer and see what information they can call up.

I successfully did that re: a 335i I’d an interest in several years ago. Found out seller was lying as car had broken down , been brought in with new fuel pump.
Seller had said car had been trouble free!!
So that level of info should be available on E90 generation etc. .
But I have found gaps in what BMW have recorded . Sloppy by their own admission.

Getting the book stamped is hardly diligent, it is a standard part of any main dealer service. Keeping invoices, no matter how sensible, is somewhat rare.

I traded my last 5 Series in with a fully stamped service book from new. The next owner won't have any invoices to back that up but it doesn't make it any less genuine.

There is a premium rate number BMW give out. I'll see if I can find it. Call that and they can confirm the service history. They can even tell you information about recalls.

As always, mileage and history can be faked. I was once offered 'ex-dealer' stamps on a car that had the odd stamp missing.

Phone up BMW UK and ask about service history. I did this yesterday for my car as I was complaining about a warranty item.

They said "Well Sir I can see your vehicle has visited Cotswold BMW 7 times between X and Y" then he gave me dates. He was unable to see what work was done.

Five minutes later after speaking to a nice chap at Cotswold BMW's servicing department I had a full list of everything the car had done with dates.

BMW UK will probably have a list of who it visited and when. You can then call that garage to see what happened.
