How feasible is this?

Caught the undertray of my E64 650i when reversing off a drive. The damage appeared to be a broken front tray, a broken middle tray, and a lost bolt that holds on a chassis brace.

Have taken the car to BMW for servicing and mentioned this. Obviously they’ve given me the end of the world news in that I’ve lost a centre chassis plate that stops the chassis flexing, and that they won’t know if there’s any damage to the actual chassis until they try and fit the new parts. £600 for the parts.

What do we reckon about there being some actual, serious chassis damage? Will the car actually flex that badly without this brace on it?

Cheers

Without before & after pics it is pretty-much impossible to say, sorry.

As said pic's would help. Presumably it wasn't attached properly in the first place, allowing it to hang down. So, presumably it wasn't doing much to strengthen anything.

My e46 had a cross threaded bolt for over 3 years on the strengthening plate. I only sorted it out because the knocking got on my nerves. It was BMW who cross threaded it, and left it like that with the plate flopping about.

I suspect they are only critical in a bump...

Ok, cheers.

I'm panicking a bit as I'm worried the chassis could have bent slightly! The damage occured only a few weeks ago and the car's done minimal miles since then, but I don't know if this part was already hanging down and thus allowing the chassis the become out of shape. If that's even a thing, I don't know.
