Anyone have any first hand experience of the 3 Series GT? I know the earlier 5 Series GT was frowned upon but I’m quite interested in the 3 Series variant.
I know the won’t handle as well as the saloon but has anyone driven/owned one?
9 month old thread and no one has admitted to owning a GT I know the won’t handle as well as the saloon but has anyone driven/owned one?

I was wondering about these cars as, if I wanted to be super sensible for my next purchase, a 328i or 335i might make a good buy?!
Just got to figure out if I could put up with the looks!
I've had one for about 6 months (12k miles). 2016 335D Msport plus.
My garage has consisted almost exclusively of estates as my life tends to revolve around outdoor sports, mostly in the highlands, so saloons are not very practical for me.
Stuff I like:
335D has loads of power for stress free overtakes even when fully laden
I'm getting around 45mpg (real world, not OBC) on most long drives
xdrive - i run winter tyres through the colder months and the combination has been unstoppable so far, including in muddy fields
The rear is huge for a 3 series. My pal's 5 feels no bigger in the back in terms of leg room.
Driving position is nice, feels a little higher than regular 3?
Boot is slightly bigger than the touring and just as usable due to the hatch
Although the cabin isn't as nice as say a 5 series, it's actually pretty comfortable and unfussy and it has grown on me
Handing is absolutely fine by my standards, despite the fact that its quite a heavy car, sitting relatively high up. Although I get to drive on some of the best driving roads in the country, to be clear, I'm not one for ragging it around constantly, so my view my not be the same as others!
Sound system is fantastic
It's a very comfortable car to be sitting in traffic in thanks to the autobox
Sits very quietly on motorway and sort of wafts along (I don't have the adaptive suspension but at no point have I wished that the set up was different)
Stuff that annoys me:
Indicators - not sure what BMW was thinking, they are just a bit pants.
Auto wipers - rubbish compared to the A4 I replaced it with
Fairly limited visibility out rear window, especially with head rests up
Parking sensors - the delay makes these totally useless IMO
Limited tyre choices, particularly for winter set up (it's different from a regular 3!)
Aesthetics - to be honest, it only looks ugly to me from the rear. Mine is glacial silver or something like that and with the M Sport plus package looks pretty good from all other angles. I'm not that bothered about the looks mind you, it's pretty far down my list of things that are important
All in all, I really like it. I'm probably exactly the type of person who BMW thought would buy it though (someone needing the practicality of an estate but wanting something closer to a saloon body). I do around 25k per year and most of those are longer journeys on single carriageway roads, with a car full of kit and people, in all sorts of weather conditions...it's perfect for that.

We’ve had BMW’s in our drive since 1986. My wife drove her 325 convertible for 15 years and I’ve had Four 7 Series, an X5 and a 525 M Touring in that time. Both the X5 and the 525 were diesels. I like BMW.
I traded my 10 year old 525 for a 2015 320GT Luxury 3 months ago and I’m very pleased with it. The 2 liter engine is very quiet and responsive and the overall finish of other car is great. I have only two issues.
1. No rear wiper. A strange omission. Can’t understand it
2. An occasional blind spot caused by the drivers mirror. It’s a large item and causes a blind spot when turning sharp right,
Otherwise, a great car.

I just bought a 2014 330d GT M sport
I can't fault it, it's quick, rides well and the room is amazing, a week's holiday in Scotland with the dog was no effort at all, it cruised up the motorways and then was great fun on the Scottish A roads. We averaged just over 40MPG over 1100 miles with some fairly exuberant driving.
IMO the must-haves are M sport with plus back as the privacy glass and the 19inch rims improve the look no end. The other must-have for me was the pro media as the larger screen makes the interior look more modern and of course that 6 cylinder engine
I think its one of those cars that looks much better in the flesh than in photos and the right colour is key.
Luckily not everyone like the same cars or it would be a very boring place
