I have recently brought a 6 Series 650 2006.

What oil should I use when changing? Also, how often or how many miles. I believe it takes 8.5 litres with a new oil filter. Is this correct?

Thanks,

My BMW indie (Autohaus Diagnostics in York) used Mobil1 ESP 5W30. Took 8 litres to do my 2005 550i. I had it changed it once a year, which was 5-6k

I have always used Mobil1 ESP 5W30 (LL04).
Last E38 740 I had from 75k miles to 210k miles when i sold it and it never used a drop of oil between services.
Current 2005 650, I have run from 38k to 170k miles and uses no oil between services which tend to be every 14k miles.

BMW will use Castrol OW30 for the N62 engine'd cars. I know as I just had to dig out an invoice from them as I needed some for a top-up.

But as mentioned above, any BMW LL04 will do.

I was looking at oil and air filters. On line it is coming up with Crosslands. Is this make OK?

Mainly concerned with good quality oil filter; if it makes any difference.

Also, anyone know any good online parts shops. Genuine BMW would be good.

Go for Mahle (eBay) or Mann (car parts 4 less) filters.

Why not a genuine BMW oil filter from the local BMW agent, they are not that expensive.

Crosland used to be a reputable brand and I used them myself many times. However the factory closed in 2005 and the brand name eventually went to Euro Car Parts. Here's a link to the story on Honest John:
