E46 330ci Airbag Control Module
Discussion
Hello PH forum members. I'm on a 'something is broken and I want to fix it myself' journey which I need a little help with please.
The airbag light is on and is throwing up 2 faults: Supply Voltage and Internal Error.
I've been led to believe that this means the control module is knackered and needs replacing. My question is this: If I buy another control module with exactly the same part no. from another E46 coupe (with no crash data on it) will it plug and play? Or does it need to be coded to my car? I've read conflicting info about this so I'm a little unsure if it's as easy as switching it out for a different module. The part number is 65.77 6912755 and it's a 2002 330ci.
thanks in advance

Thanks! Do you know if they need to be coded?
Possibly or it may just work off the bat. Typical E46 s
t design means that rather than being under the rear seat as on the E36 (20 seconds to lift it and read the number) BMW clowns fitted it under the centre console that requires many minutes of dismantling.

Yup, been through this already trying to find the part number. To be fair, it only took 10 mins to dismantle and put it back together. I've ordered an identical unit form a breakers so will see if switching it out cures the problem.

On the off chance someone else stumbles across this thread looking for the same info I was... here is the conclusion:
I bought an airbag control module from a non crashed car and made sure the donor car was also an e46 coupe. I then switched the newly purchased module with the one in my car and hey presto the airbag light went out. No need for any coding like a lot of other threads suggested. Total cost to repair: 25 pounds. Would have been several hundred at the local garage!
