What is this?

[joesmoe]

Hi all just recently picked up a f31 320d and have no idea what this camera looking thing is behind the rear view mirror? Any ideas?

Cheers

Rain sensor for auto wipers.

[Smuler]

It's a sensor, I think for rain and light thus operating any variable features such as auto headlamps and wipers maybe more.

Rain Sensor and high beam assist as well.

For your model and mine to be fair it might do other things.

My E36 has a little lens like thing on the rear view mirror which I can only assume is for auto dimming.

335d an auto-rain and headlamp sensor, but it does not look anything as cumbersome as that, unless your photo angle is making it look bigger than it really is.

It’s the high beam assist sensor.

Rain/light sensor is attached to the screen itself

High beam assist camera, can also be used for traffic sign recognition
