So there's funny going on with my mirror adjustment. i have the following issues:

1. the near side mirror no longer dips when reverse is selected (selector switch set to nearside) and will not move when i move the controller.
2. when the selector switch is set to off side (drivers) i can move the drivers mirror using the controller but when i do the near side mirror also moves. The odd bit is that when i move the drivers mirror up or down the nearside moves left and right instead (and vice versa (L/R=U/D)).
3. Probably unrelated but the parking sensors are intermittently hyper sensitive, sometimes remaining continually on when reverse is selected.

For info the mirrors are not the folding sort and the car has memory seats.

Any ideas?

What state is your battery in? Mine started having random mirror issues not long before the battery died. New battery, no problems since!

Mine did some weird things with the mirrors - I replaced the module in the door (it's a doddle to swap out) and that solved it. Can't help with the other issues but a dying battery is a good shout as I understand they're known to produce some odd electrical gremlins when they're on their way out.

I thought that you had to set the selector switch to offside to get the near side mirror to dip? Not using my E46 today so cannot check.

I would agree that the battery can throw up all sorts of problems as it deteriorates just before dying. Mine kept setting the alarm off (amongst other things).

Another thing that you could consider is either a bad/dirty electrical connector or a partially broken wire. The car I currently have has had the wiring between the body and the boot lid repaired at some time as the flexible cover has been slit open and reclosed using tiewraps.
