I have had my car a couple of months and driven everyday. Just been on holiday and left parked on drive for just over a week. Oil puddle under gearbox.

Brought car from Evans Halshaw who said they had replaced gasket and oil.

Any ideas why it would only appear to leak whilst parked up for long period?

Now looking at how to fix!

Is it definitely the gearbox? Because these engines like to leak from various places.

Hi Bimjim,

Though just back from holiday today, I couldn’t resist the temptation and put the car on the ramps this evening and removed both underside trays.

The gearbox appeared dry and it looks like a new cover and gasket.

The oil is from the engine and had probably collected on top of the underside trays and drained out whilst I was away. My drive way is on a slope.

The only signs of oil I could find was the underside of the compressor which was wet as was the steering rack just behind the compressor. Above this area is the oil filler cap.

I removed the top engine covers and felt around rocker cover gasket. It was dirty, but no obvious signs of leaks.

I have cleaned everything up and dried off with a rag and will keep an eye.

There is a very slim chance it could be spilt oil from recent oil change that was done by Evans Halshaw or its possibly my rocker cover gasket, though if so, it only appears to be leaking in one location.

Any other tips or advice would be welcomed. Thanks,

bimjim

Other than the usual gaskets, they like to leak around the alternator bracket.

I checked the alternator and all was dry, the only oil I could find was on the opposite side sitting under the AC compressor. I have read that the 645 leak around a sensor but not sure where or whether 650’s have the same problem.
