Hello

So I’m looking to get a used gran coupe, a 3 litre either a 330i, 335i, 330d, 335d. I am not too bothered about which one I get just going to find the best deal maybe at an auction or something.

Just in terms of the options on this car does the car have those lights on the outside door handles come on when you unlock the car as standard?

I'm guessing you mean the ground facing "puddle" light LEDs?

I don't know for sure, but seeing as my 57 plate 123d had them and my 06 plate 325i does too I'd be amazed if any of the ones you mentioned didn't!

Good luck with finding the right 4 Gran Coupe BTW - probably BMW's best looking car just now IMO. thumbup

Mine has the puddle lighting on all four handles, and I don't have the comfort access pack. It's a MY2018 though, so no idea if the standard spec has changed over the years.

Interesting I wonder if it’s a standard then from a certain year
The comfort pack isn’t available any more on the bmw website

Maybe it changed, when they did the facelift (called LCI). I did have a quick look, out of curiosity, but didn't find any old brochures to confirm.

Thanks for this. How are you finding the car have you had it from new?
Any recommendations on what to look for when buying a car that you wish you knew before you owned one?

Bought at 6 months old, I was looking specifically for a used 430d gc in mineral grey/ coral red leather with folding mirrors and ideally electric seats, HK and the extended storage. This one came up at the right time/price and had everything except the HK.

Been happy with it, also bought the 5 year service pack available at the time, managed to get three services and a brake fluid change out of that, now on 50k miles, all good.

I’m looking for something with m sport plus pack and electric seats and folding mirrors.
What does the extended storage pack consist of?

I thought 4GC had memory seats as standard on the top models?

Or is it literally only 35xd and 35/40i?

BMW are so tight with seats. It wouldn’t be so bad but the standard ones have terrible adjustment controls.

My 440i Coupe (new in December 2017) has electric/memory seats as standard.
HK stereo is very good.
Head-Up Display is excellent and well worth the extra cash.

I find the LED lights a bit pants on my F30... not sure how good they are on the 4 series.

Mainly just full beam and above horizon coverage is poor.
Ie, driving on country lanes with undulations you get no forward illumination if you’re heading down into a dip, of the road we’ll ahead.

Every other car I’ve had hasn’t been so tight on the above horizon line illumination.

Not sure I’d bother buying adaptive LED for rural use because on full beam they’re still poor imo.

HUD is maybe more useful especially if you do driving for work or random different roads a lot and have speed limit display too!

Unfortunately the M sport plus pack is not specced that often, but you can get the brakes at a later date from BMW as far as I know.

The electric seats are another not specced often.

Folding mirrors from what I know is standard as the 318d SE Touring I had whilst my M235i was with BMW had folding mirrors. (I think it may depend on year)

According to google extended storage is the following

folding compartment in the instrument panel on the driver’s side
two 12V sockets
rear door pockets
storage nets on the front seat backrests
a storage net and fastening strap on the right of the luggage compartment
net for flexible usage
two cup holder trays for storing small items

Lol door pockets in the back!

I’ve never had a cheap bmw but why would anyone?

All these things should be standard but I appreciate the business owners who don’t care but want an ‘image’

Still I think all top spec models should have these basics!

Yeah that’s a general issue with German cars with things being optional that really should be standard.

But I agree my 1st and current BMW I ended up adding way over 5k of options to it.

I think overall the worse is Porsche for items that really should be standard you have to pay for.

I am sure on the Porsche Macans you still have to pay extra for rear airbags

I must admit when I drove an F30 I did find the lights (standard LED) a bit pants. Which is strange as the same technology bar mine on the 640D being adaptive is superb on my 640D.

I am not sure whether the design of the headlight or something else makes them not as good. Although the design looks similar the F30 and F33/F36 do not share the same headlight (which surprises even me!)

Yeah they’re really good cars overall for the money... but basic details can be frustrating too at this price level.

When a £17,500 Fiesta ST comes brand new with halogens that are better than a used £30,000 335xd with leds that’s a bit of a kick in the balls.

I wouldn’t buy a “cheap” BMW. I dread to think how horrible they are with loads of default options missing.
