Evening all. Should be picking up an approved used X5 later this week. Looking forward to getting back in a BMW after selling my imola red e46 coupe 5 years ago and have had a c class coupe since (great car).

So the car I’m getting has 20 inch alloys and is having new RFT rears fitted as part of my purchase. Front are on about 4mm (couldn’t get them to throw them in).

I’ve just been having a look online about space savers then I was forward thinking about winter time wheels, RFT’s ride quality etc etc

And maybe I’m best getting a space saver wheel and kit for the boot well now and ask them to fit an all weather normal tyre instead of the RFT? (My Dad has the Michelin all season tyres on and rates them).

Thoughts/advice please :-)

Very pertinent information, well done... rolleyes

OP: I am on 20” RFT and also considered swapping to non RFT for better ride comfort and larger choice in tyres. If you have a 7 seater there is no underfloor space for a spare wheel. 18” spare wheel kits are readily available for around 250 pounds.

I’m getting the 5 seat option. If there is a specific space saver suitable for the car and a boot well that it fits in it seems like a no brainier!?

That together with cheaper tyres, better ride comfort, the option to puncture repair tyres...

Are all seasons regularly used by x5 drivers on here? If so what type are recommended?

If sticking with BMW approved star marked tyres is important to you, you'll find there aren't any approved all seasons that fit the 20 inch wheels.

In fact, I don't think there are any approved non run flat summer tyres that fit either.

In terms of comfort, I don't have a problem with the run flats.

Do you have an x5? How have you found performance in the snow? (I’m based up north so we get some)

I'm in the South East, but with lots of family in the Welsh hills I always fit winter tyres. With those on, both my current F15 and my previous E70 have been fine.

I've got the Pirelli Ice & Snow approved run flats.

20” Pirelli Winter staggered (275/315) - 19” is the smallest that fit mine (M50D), but other X5 could get away with 18”.
