Deals on M140i anytime soon?
Discussion
Really fancy a new M140i in the near future. With the new 1 series due early next year, does anyone think there might be some deals to be done towards the end of the year on the M140i, or will it be a case that they'll still be able to sell every one they build so no discounting required?
This is the guy with the deals its seems Tony Lewis of berrys http://www.babybmw.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=80&am...

No discounting? Broadspeed are offering £8k off now and I expect that will continue.
There are loads of delivery miles ones on AT at the moment.
I have a search for ones with mem seats and they were rare to turn up over the last 6 months, now there are 10 or so new shadow edition (chav) ones.
So I assume they’re not selling as well as they were.
I’d just wait till the new ones are out and buy a nearly new one for about £20,000 at a year old as there will be loads by then.

I'd get one a few years old, they depreciate like a bomb.
You can pick up a good one for £22-26k.
Admiral finance offer PCP at around 5.9%. If you haggle hard with a dealership, you might get them to 7.9%.

How are they depreciating like a bomb? You can buy a brand spanking new one from a broker for just over that at £26.4K?

Cheapest 3 door auto is £28,997, a broker will get you a brand new 3 door auto for a little over £27K.

Broker with cheap spec prices.
All those mentioned, iirc, have £1000 memory seats for starters.
Maybe you should actually go have a look rather than assuming? All those mentioned, iirc, have £1000 memory seats for starters.
All are factory order cars that you can add whatever options you like too, so if memory seats are your thing, just spec it - AND they're discounted to £618

Whats the cheapest pre-reg one on AT with memory seats BTW?
Not only that, but because those cars are used, they wont qualify for the new car finance incentives.

Try contacting Lombard:
https://www.lombardvehiclesolutions.co.uk/personal...
They offered me a brand new Golf R - 20% discount at 6% APR on PCP.
I'm sure you've tried Car-Wow already, last time I looked at 140i, I'm sure they offered me around £15% and 1.9% APR from BMW.
As my above post, I think 140i is a car that should be bought 1-2 years old, they depreciate like a brick in water.

https://www.motorpoint.co.uk/vehicleadvert/bmw/1%2...
I negotiated 6.9% APR with Motorpoint, by telling them that I could get 5.9% from Admiral and they offered to try and match so they didn't loose the finance. That's pretty good for used.

Look around on Google and owners clubs.
On the m135/140 owner's page on FB a main dealer sold a brand new, 0 miles pre-reg m140i shadow for £24k.
Surprised to hear that, I tested a 140i that exactly matches the above description and they wanted around £32k for it and 11% APR on PCP. On the m135/140 owner's page on FB a main dealer sold a brand new, 0 miles pre-reg m140i shadow for £24k.
I ended up buying a highly spec'd 340i for the same price.

How is showing large discounts on new cars proving they're not depreciating?

Large discounts on brand new cars and many on the road are all the ingredients of a car that will not hold up well in the used market. Not to mention, lots of cheap lease deals around, will also have an impact.

Because the prices you are showing for 1-2 year old cars arent a million miles away from the price of a discounted new one.How is showing large discounts on new cars proving they're not depreciating?
The one you've just shown above at £23,599 can be bought brand new for £27,840. Given a car depreciates most in its first year i dont think by any stretch of the imagination that is showing it "depreciates like a brick in water"?
Likewise the cheapest M140i on AT is £19,999 at two years old is a 5 door manual. Brand new it can be bought for £26,735. Again, not really demonstrating depreciating like a brick in water?
Not only that but the deals you are quoting are at a high APR. On a new car you can get 4.9% APR
And IF you're going down the PCP route, i'd say in terms of deposit and monthly payments a new one can be got for the same price as a used one on PCP anyway.
I''m not at all saying they're the last bastion of depreciation proof motoring, but they're no worse than most and possibly even a little better. Certainly not dropping like a brick in water.

They’ll depreciate hard with so much supply and BMW would surely know that when setting GFV etc.
Someone will be paying and I can guess it’ll be the consumer.
If a hire one looks good now, it’ll look terrible in a year when you can buy one used for half again.

Theres 73 2017 M140is on Autotrader across the whole of the UK. That doesnt seem like a lot?
By comparison, theres 88 2017 Golf GTIs, and 350+ Focus STs, yet i dont think anyone would say the market is flooded with those?
In terms of residuals, BMW are setting the value at £16K for a 3 year PCP deal on a 5 door auto Shadow Edition (taken from their website) DriveTheDeal will flog you a brand new one for £30K. That PCP deal will be @ 4.9% APR too. Applying the 50% drop every three years rule of thumb and that looks quite positive?

If a new one can be bought for £26K then wheres the year old ones @ £13K?If you're talking about finance payments, and a new one can be got for say, £400 odd a month, wheres the PCP deals on a year old one for half that? Your motorpoint quote certainly wasnt showing it?
I'm just not seeing vast numbers of M140is on the market and i'm not seeing them being dumped on the used market cheap either.

I’ve been watching 140i on AT with email updates and the numbers are rising (obviously given they only appeared recently), but there seems to be a glut of shadow editions on low mileages recently. If you're talking about finance payments, and a new one can be got for say, £400 odd a month, wheres the PCP deals on a year old one for half that? On £13,000 ones. In a year. Not now.
A new model out soon and a flood of cars to choose from.
There are about 20 black shadow editions with nice spec up for £28,000 ish each right now.
If that isn’t a buyers market I don’t know what is.
