Bmw 320d Xdrive straight through and remap
Discussion
Hi, new member to the forums so hope I'm asking in the right place?
I'm in the process of buying a 2013(63) bmw 320d xdrive sport in metallic sparkling bronze I collect the car next weekend and I'm looking to do some mods which I have never had any experience with. The first thing I'm looking to do is fit a straight through exhaust or a similar type of system and then remap the car but I have no idea what I'm looking for. Are there different types of exhausts or any specific ones I should be looking for as I don't want the car to sound too bawling, then there's the question of remapping I've heard loads of different options over the years "their great for throttle responses/ fuel economy" ect. Then on the other had "clutch/turbo damage". Any advice on the best systems methods to use would be appreciated. I know some will say I should have just got a 330d xdrive but I couldn't afford the extra 4-5k although I did own a 2006 330d and loved it and I'm looking for a similar thrill! Thanks

I wouldn't be doing a straight through exhaust, it will sound really bad on a diesel but more to the point it will not pass an MOT so won't be road legal. You cannot get rid of the DPF anymore either.
Remap is fine so long as it is done properly and the car is then properly maintained. More regular oil changes, warming up and cooling down the turbo properly and using decent fuel.

Thanks for the reply Mike335i, I've heard there are different ways they can be fit to get different notes out of the exhaust but I have no idea how but I'm just after a bit of grunt nothing too dramatic, also I've heard people are taking the dpf off, putting a hole right through it then refitting it are blanking the warning light off or something? And I'm quite friendly with a few garages and have also heard some will mot them on the quiet.

Yep you will be fine. Get your mate to Mot it and to be honest, I wouldn't bother with insurance either. Take a risk and you will be fine.
I reckon you will get 0-60mph in the 3 sec ish mark too.

You could risk it it of course, but they are risking their jobs by passing dodgy MOTs, so I wouldn't rely on them to always be so generous. One clampdown and they will change their tune. The test is for emissions and is much tighter since May this year.
If you want faster, a remap is the way to go. You could increase airflow with an intake system (although I doubt it makes much difference). A cat back exhaust might make it a little louder I guess.
If you want big power, you could upgrade the turbo, maybe injectors and fuel pumps etc, but that will be expensive and you may as well have just gone 330d at that point.
A good quality remap will be your best bet and would make a 320d decently quick.

Thanks for the swift replies guys ?? I guess it's just going to have to be the remap then, I know I could of enquired at exhaust centres but I was worried they'd tell me it'd be fine and once it was fitted it would be a awful bawling noise!
What you do it’ll be an awful bawling noise. It’s a 320d FFS. Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
