I am in the market for a new (to me) estate and a 2007 335d M sport touring has caught my eye. It is up for just under 10K with 54000miles, in Le Mans Blue with a full leather interior.

I am a complete novice when it comes to BMW's and what to look for. Can anyone provide a simple list of what to look out for?

Cheers

Hi,
First thing you want to check is that any recent recall work has been done to the car, as there were problems with the power distribution system on these cars. You want to check the DPF has been regenerating and that the engine reaches temperature to allow this to happen.

Make sure everything works and try out all the toys. At this sort of age stuff like vacuum hoses will start to fail on the engine as well. You want to take it for a decent test drive and make sure the engine starts well from cold and it should be smooth. Under acceleration there should be no sudden boosty feel to the performance and it should feel strong. A sudden feeling of it coming on boost under acceleration could mean the smaller turbo isn’t working.

Main thing to look for is the condition of the brakes, has it got good matched tyres on it? Service history should be good on a car like this. I would recommend an inspection on her car by a good specialist before you buy.

Good luck

There may be DPF issues on an 11 year old diesel with only 54k miles. On the other hand it may have been used for weekend runs on motorways. I only hope my 335d will fetch that money when it is 11 years old!
