Hi all, I have a 2010 X1 X-drive BMW and 2 1/2 years ago I had to have the transmission box changed due to jerkiness and 'issues'. After a fight with BMW I managed to get a negotiated deal on the cost. But a big deal for a 70,000 mile car.
Now I have trouble with the gear stick selection. I can get D + reverse + Neutral but not DS. The lights on the units also decide to go out or not. Been ok to drive though apart from this. Initial response from BMW (quicky inspection) found that the wiring loom to the gear stick has a suspect wire and needs changing. This seems to be a £380 part and approx' £700 labour as the whole gear unit needs changing. The loom is affixed to the units and is not getatable anyway.
Anyone else had this problem?
ps I have booked in for a further BMW examination to check it is the correct analysis. But concerned it is a known failure and manufacturing issue. Wiring should not crack and supposing it was the 'Drive' wire or reverse.
