Can anyone help me figure out if the actuator motor in the x3/5/6 is the same as the 320d xdrive? It's the difference between a £3000 fix and a £100 fix!

Give us some more info like what is the part number, and what exactly does this actuator do? You’re more likely to have luck with the part being the same on the X3 as that model shares the floor pan with the F30.
Have a look on https://www.realoem.com that should tell you

Thank you husky man, I have the part numbers they are similar but not the same, but in thinking the x3 floor plan is the same as the f30 is promising.

I have a bmw 320d xdrive 63 and it's juddering under acceleration. Common fault in most xdrive cars and its down to a weak nylon cog inside the actuator motor on the transfer box. I've found a replacement cog on ebay but it's not specifying my model but all x3/5/6 cars. The part numbers are slightly different but I'm wondering if they share the same actuator motor as this is the difference between a £3000 job and £100!!

I have and it only brings up the part numbers for x3/5/6. I can't find the part number for the cog inside the actuator on a 320d xdrive any where.

If it's unclear from realoem call BM parts department and make it their problem.
If it's only a plastic cog it's probably not gonna be that much more expensive from them than a third party would charge anyway.

Thanks, I will try that but thought they might be reluctant as they are making a killing from selling the transfer box at 3k

Not all dealers are equally evil.

There is one who is usually quite active on/sponsors MiniTorque, I'd try them first.

Are you sure it’s the nylon gear causing your issue? The older cars definitely had this problem and list the repair kit but not any of the f series cars as far as I know including the newer x3 that shares floor plan with the f30

Where are you in the UK? I have a very good local indie in Camberley I'd recommend.

The other cause of the jerking you're talking about is mis-matched tyres - so before you go stripping the transfer box, just check that the tyres are star marked.
