BMW 3 series - Cranking but not starting
Discussion
Hi all,
I would like to thank everyone in advance for reading this post and providing some valuable insights. I have a BMW 3 series E46 Compact (Diesel).
A week ago, my engine cut off and wouldn't start up- DDE light came up. I called RAC and upon their inspection they said that that the fuel pump was gone. I have replaced the fuel pump with no joy. the car wouldn't start, i read on the forum that it could be the fuel pump relay or the fuel filter. I have checked the relay and is fine, I replaced the fuel filter to see if that was the problem, it still didn't start. I also checked the ECU fuses and that was ok too. ive tried to start the car with spraying 'engine starter spray ' and it starts but as soon as you stop spraying, the car stops..... I have tried starting the car without the starter spray and it just cranks.
The problem seems to be that the fuel is not getting into the engine to combust. The fuel comes through to the engine input , but the car doesnt start.
When i called the RAC , they checked again and diagnosed that the there is no rail pressure control at start.(code 4B90). it is interesting to note that the DDE light has disappeared.
could it be the pressure sensors gone ??
I am contemplating whether to replace the fuel rail. I am stuck as i dont know what to do next. any advice offered will be appreciated, thanks.
