Bmw 1 series 116i rev problem

Hi

I recently brought a bmw 1 series 116i 2012 with 56k mileage. When I start the car in the morning (or any time I start the engine after 6 hours of it not being in use) it revs to 1500rpm on its own and stays like that for 30-40 seconds. It then reduces down to 700-800rpm. Is this normal or an indication of a problem?

Most petrol cars will have a high idle from a cold start . Bet your last car was a diesel although even some diesels have a slightly higher idle at first start .
