2001 320ci MAF Question

Hi, I have a 2001 320ci with maf problems. Runs rough like its going to stall at start up. Removed maf and it runs better so I guess i need a new one. my question is, if i buy a new one do i need to get it reprogramed on a 2001 or is it just plug n play?

Ur not confirming it’s the maf by unplugging it. If you have an air leak you will have the same result and they are well known for split intake hoses, leaking vac pipes or leaking disa valves

Thanks for the reply Eliot. Yes after doing some research I'm beginning to thing I'm wrong and its an vacuum leak. I'm not very experienced mechanicaly but learning every day, thanks to guys like you and researching to net.
Going to do a good search tomorrow for split valve's, hoses and see if I can see any obvious fails. If not what should be my second step?
