I am about to lease a 430D m sport, for 48 months - doing 12k miles a year.

For about £45 per month I can build in full service and maintenance (including tyres and serving etc).

I am struggling to get a true picture for my 4 year service costs (I know I cannot factor in un-expected wear and tear - but could do with guidance on scheduled costs),

Over 4 years I am assuming I will need a service every 18 months, and that I should change the oil every 10k miles or so (I will be driving mainly urban).
Also 1 x inspection service.

Tyres (19" 704M alloys so 2 x 225/40 R19 & 2 x 255/35 R19) will cost me around £600 to £700 maybe once in 48k miles.

My local dealer in Dick Lovett in Bristol, and I have read that dealers do vary rates a fair amount, I am not buying via the dealer but can opt for their £399 service plan - maybe this is more sensible.

If in doubt I was thinking on just paying the full maintenance with the lease company, I am not a big petrol head but also don't want to spend over the top if I can help it.

Any help / links would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'm sure you have been through the pitfalls of a leased car out of its 3 year warranty.....

I would seriously consider extending the BMW warranty after year 3 (do this well before it's birthday) as you could be liable for huge costs on a car that's not yours.

I would probably opt for the £399 service plan as you will probably click up 2 services at that.

Dealer rates vary considerably and it us often worth travelling for better service or charges.
Tyres likewise will be considerably cheaper outside the network.

You'll get one service IIRC as its capped at 3 years/36k now and excludes brake fluid.

So he'd hit his first service at 20k miles which would be about 18 months in, and then by the time its due again he'll be over the mileage limit.

BMW Service Inclusive used to be great, now I can't see how it makes any sense.

They want £2160 to cover tyres and servicing over 4 years and 48k, I'd put the £45 away every month instead and service replace tyres as you go.

Personally I'd get a set of winter tyres and rotate them with the summers and I'd wager they would last the 48k, 1 x summers 1 x winters, the winters will be £600 for a good set, 48k would probably mean 2 x services or around £600 if done at a main dealer so £1200 all in.

Also worth remembering that lease companies stick exactly to what the car needs and absolutely no more. So you won't be getting an oil change every 10k miles, more likely 18k between visits, or there abouts. The same is true for tyre wear, you need to be pretty much on the wear bars before they will change them and then only what needs doing and no more. This can a little disconcerting in a bad winter.

It's a good point, you're effectively paying them £2150 so they can dictate what you can have and when, I wouldn't go for that option.

That makes sense - as any saving would be good.

I am going down the PCH scheme so handing the car back, so I am not sure if I will be concerned to have oil services within the standard BMW reminders. As it will not be mine for ever.

The idea of rotating tyres makes sense - I just need to have the conviction to do it.

My current car is a 520D (48k after 50 months) which included maintenance and I question if the amount of service work was more frequent so my local dealer could get funds out of the lease company.
The service sequence was:

15k - oil and microfilter change
28k - oil, microfilter, vehicle check, air cleaner and fuel filter
33k - brake fluid
42k - oil and microfilter change

And although this is a different car what might this lot cost me vs the £399 service plan or indeed full maintenance, and what would I get for it?

All help is much appreciated.

I think we have shown that the £45 per month plan is not the one to go for, so the service plan option vs paying as you go for service is the one left, Fox has pointed out that the service plan has changed in terms of what it offers for the all in price, so I'd suggest from here you price up the maintenance schedule with a dealer and then go from there....

I'd suggest that just paying for everything "as you go" will be the best option when you factor in what Fox says about the current BMW service plan.

But you need to do the maths when you have facts.
