3 series 320d or 330d
Discussion
Hi
Help please!!
My 2009 3 series 320d touring has finally given up.
I need a tourer and tow a boat occasionally and have no intention of buying the replacement with anything other than another excellent bmw tourer. I am currently torn between a 320d xdrive m sport auto 2015 and a 330d xdrive m sport auto 2015.
Any comments/advice would be welcome
Cheers

X drive on the 3 Series I believe foregoes the M Sport suspension so if you want a sportier ride , then adaptive would be key.
In my opinion on non X Drive cars it’s most essential on the bigger wheels (19s) and certainly with the dreaded RFTs ; in those cases, it’s about ride comfort.
Do you really need xdrive ?
I’d certainly say go 330

I currently have a 420d daily drive and my wife has just replaced her 62 plate f31 330d touring with a 67 plate f31 335d touring, so speaking from experience.....
The 2.0d is no where near as bad as some folks like make out. It really doesn't feel lacking in thrust under normal, every day, driving conditions and feels so much lighter at the front end than the 3.0d. There is a fair amount of clatter on start up and at low speed, but [with the 8 speed auto] at motorway speeds the engine is barely ticking over, hence is really very quiet. The payback is 50% more mpg than the bigger engine.
BUT....the difference in power against a 3.0d is very noticeable. Those 6 cylinder diesels are so smooth and the huge dollops of torque mean you won't be thinking about what gear you're in when you floor it to overtake.
Folding wing mirrors came as an option, I believe, with the adaptive headlights (pre-LED), but you'll need to specify the 'all singing, all dancing' adaptive LED's to get the same folding mirrors on later models.
Definitely worth driving both before unfairly dismissing the smaller engine though.
