BMW 316 Tunning (get more Hps)
Discussion
Honestly, buy a 318i, 320i, 323i, 325i or a 328i. They can't be much more expensive.
If you can't buy a new car, they you could try looking at an engine swap.
Failing that you could spend lots of money not making much more power. If you want to go faster, maybe lighten the car? Buy better tyres?

If you want to keep the engine and only looking for small gains. Just do the usual.
Intake - any universal intake will do and can easily be installed by yourself
Exhaust - Decat or even replace full system. Headers if you can afford it.
Tune - Now the car has better airflow you'll need to let the ECU know, adjust your AFR's and you'll be combusting more efficiently, also adjust ignition timing. (Just google for reflash software that works with your car that lets you alter maps, I don't know much about BMW's so not sure what's out there.)
This is the general starting point to pull some more power out of an engine. You can go further (Cams, forced induction etc.) but the cheapest way to get power for you will be to do an engine swap.
