I have an 330i e90 and a while ago put a post up regarding a flat spot at very low revs, had some decent tips which were eventually investigated but with no success, however I had the rocker cover done a couple of weeks ago and my mechanic said there were some bolts missing and some were loose, believe it or not I was hardly loosing any oil, I only had it done to investigate a tip on here regarding my flat spot and that was to clean the valvetronic motor sensor which I was advised they can clog up, this seemed logical to me that this could be the issue as I stated in my original post that the service history was poor in fact the oil was soooo gloopy the oil filter had collapsed when I gave it a change after i got the car. Any way the gasket was replaced and sealed and my mechanic said the car was fine on the test drive but the next morning when he checked it over, it started hunting for a few seconds before settling down and management light came on and been on ever since and the car is holding back on power, the error code was for the vanos, so the solenoids have been swapped and cleaned (a few times as it happens cos I done it too not so long back) he is unsure the vanos is at fault as after taking sump off to clean the pick up, which was caked in crap (there appeared to be bits of gasket in the sump too), he recons that there could be a blockage somewhere starving the vanos of oil therefore the ecu thinks its broke even though it might not be, these are guesses, any ideas? so basically I did have a car that ran well (apart from that low end flat spot I commented on a while ago) to having a rocker gasket replaced that as it happens was shot probably not helping with that flat spot, so a car with now a vanos code and a second or 2 of hunting before settling down then driving fine but the flat spot is, well right through the rev range. i recon there could be something in that as the oil gauge seems to be all over the place, sometimes registering full, then half full then empty, but there are no leaks now. ill just ad sorry he suspected a blockage after when he unscrewed the oil cap he said the oil should just drain away, but it never it too ages to drop... sorry its a bit long but difficult to explain it plus the more detailed i can be hopefully the more logical replies i may get. thanks chaps

so this is completely unrelated to the issues I've had, just a coincidence? would I experience loss of power right through the range with this? hey if this is the issue believe me its not the end of the world as I have had visions of never rectifying it and getting rid of the car as spares or repair and getting less than half value for it, any way my mechanic Is really reasonable
