Hi I have a lovely E30 but am thinking of upgrading and I have seen a suitable car for sale in Scotland, but I live at the other end of the country.

Is there anybody out there eho knows their way around and E30 and knows all of the weak points who would be able to check it out thoroughly for me?

Thanks

Has the E30 you're interested in been a daily driver in Scotland?

If yes, then consider the effects of daily driving an elderly BMW on Scottish roads for 8 yrs - my E39:

The wheel arches and sills on my 530d have all need remedial work to deal with rust.

If the E30 has been a 'garage queen' then of course it's a different matter. (My E39 M5 has never seen the salt so is in superb condition.)

Whereabouts in Scotland is the E30 you're contemplating?

(There's a BMW independent garage run by an ex-BMW Master Tech I know....but he's in Inverness which isn't much use if your car is in Dumfries etc..)

Every old BMW I've seen from Scotland has been a teabag. The E90 I saw up on a ramp recently was spectacular - the rear axle resembled the deck rails on the Titanic, and that's a 2006 car.

Thanks for your input.
I had considered that rust may be more of an issue the further north you go but not that much!
The price turns out to be far too high anyway and I think I have found one closer to home anyway, but thanks for the warnings!
