Hey folks,

My sister has the above car and apparently the high pressure fuel pump needs replacing, she's been quoted 2.5k and I have no idea if that's reasonable, way off, made up or an actual number.

Does anyone have experience with this particular problem?

cheers!

That seems high to me. Is that from a BMW dealer? Had mine done under warranty and they suggested I’d be around the £1500 mark if I was paying.

Also, has the car always been serviced by a BMW main dealer? If so it may be worth asking them about approaching BMW UK for a goodwill contribution, I know a few people who were successful in this, although that was a few years ago now. Was a known issue with the N53 and N54 engines.

If it’s not got full BMW Service History I’d get an independent to do it, will likely be cheaper.

Jesus Christ that's scary. Can you give more details about this 2.5k quote please.

Mine's on it's third ;-<

Last one was £1,100 including fitting at a local independent.

How much are these pumps? It’s only an hour and half job!

I found the receipt.

About £800 for the part and two hours work, so you might get change out of £1K.
Depends how many bits nearby have to be changed at the same time.

You can get the pump for about £600 if you go to the right dealer and replacing it is do-able yourself on the drive if you're competent with spannering. Try Elliot at Harry Fairbain Kircaldy parts, or Cotswolds who are also usually cheaper than RRP.

Ouch! Sorry to hear that OP, but at least it looks like you can get the job done for less. thumbup

Reminds me why when I was looking for an E91 earlier this year I only considered the ones with N52 engines!
