E39 abs module
Discussion
I've got the usual abs sensor lights coming on, and need to get my abs module rebuilt. The garage want to charge me £400 to send it away, so I've told them not to bother and I'll sort it out myself.
There are a few companies that do the rebuild as far as I can see, has anybody used one of them in particular that they can recommend?

bba reman ought to help.
although i managed to remove the abs warning light on my e39 by using electrical contact cleaner and that worked fine for months before I sold the car.

BBA will say they can’t fix it and try and sell you a new one. Don’t bother. Phone Quarry Motors and buy a Bosch one from them.
Wow, the online reviews for BBA are... something
I'll steer clear I think...I don't want a replacement part, as then I'll have to get it recoded. I just want to get my current one repaired.

Quarry can supply one ready coded though it’s a very easy diy with BMW software.
How does that work then? Surely it needs to be coded to my car, so they would need access to my car to be able to code it...I don't have the dongle/cable/software to code it myself.
Spending the £100ish quid to have someone rebuild mine seems the least hassle, lowest cost option to me, unless i'm missing something obvious.

Re the pre coding, you’d have to ask Quarry. They offered the service to me when I bought one from them. I didn’t need it as I have lots of BMW software.I don't have the dongle/cable/software to code it myself.

Depends what E39 you have. Cars with ASC? Just bolt the ECU to the valve block and it will self code and work. That's the Bosch unit ending in 001.
Cars with DSC are more expensive, Bosch 002 or 003, I forget now. They have a steering angle sensor in the upper column and definitely need coding. Used ECU's are 50 quid or so but how long do they have left? Given that an E39 isn't worth a lot now, I'd risk a used 001 as you may luck on one that was new 3 years ago or something. 10-15 mins to fit, piece of piss.
